Damn that looks amazing. Very high hopes for this one.

P.S. People seriously need to stop comparing this to He-Man. I mean damn.

Curiosity is piqued, mostly because no one has ever done these stories via live action.

The trailer looks good. They're keeping some things hidden or low key. I like having ERB as a character in the movie. I first read the novels back in 1972 I believe (a year or two around that at least) and have been looking forward to a live action movie ever since (the Antonio Banderas one does not count).

I've been looking through old stuff I hope I had stored for some articles I read in the 70's....I remember seeing preproduction drawings for either a movie or a stage play based on the first book....the pictures showed them designing the Tharks by having two people in a costume (one on the other's shoulders) and the bottom guy's face covered by the armour of the guy above. That would have been interesting to see done live.

I want to give the movie a chance, but that trailer was so damn unimaginative and bland looking imo. However, I will wait for future trailers to determine once and for all if I will be seeing the movie.

It's Antonio Sabato Jr.:cwink:

How does the novels describe Mars itself?

Well, the Mattel people did look alot at the Frazetta and Vallejo illustrations of John Carter(as well as Conan) for inspiration. That's why you see these comparisons.

The trailer was well made, although it bugs me that visually it reminds me of Prince of Persia. I hope it will be more drama-centered, telling two storylines, one set on the 19th century Earth, and the other - on Mars. Didn't notice anything really extraordinary, but still have hope for the better story.

A little disappointed. I guess I was expecting something a little more epic feel like the book. And I thought the Tharks would look more Avatar real and less cartoony. Will wait and see when a full trailer is released closer to release date.

Wow, this movie looks pretty epic, I never read the books but I remember seeing some pretty awesome Frank Frazetta paintings of John Carter back in some Heavy Metal magazines. Awesome stuff.

There are some people who also cite Prince of Persia for the look of Conan The Barbarian. Well, visually there was nothing wrong with Prince of Persia, it just had a lousy script.

I get it but I'm afraid some idiot is going to claim it's ripping off He-Man and my head will explode.

****ing trailer! :wow::up:

So obviously thr princess here has a 'red' complexion with tribal tatoos. So why did Quint of ain't it cool news was complaining that she isn't red along with her people? they appear to be 'red' but not tomato 'red'.

Whisky Tango posted a link to the description...thanks WT.

Interesting. This movie is a novel ? How is it ?
There were 11 John Carter of Mars books. They were great.

I'm used to that stuff nowadays....if it's over a year old the kids don't know about it.

I remember when I first saw 'Fellowship of the Ring' and my friend said afterwards that it's a ripoff of Star Wars. haha

Mind you we were kids back then but you have some ignorant and ill informed nerds out there.

Older people are just as uniformed. I remember some older lady started complaining about the Hulk movie and how making him so big and CGI was a disgrace to the original. She thought the Hulk was invented from the 1970s TV series.

I'm hoping that they are holding out on us and that they only showed these scenes in the trailer so they don't end up scaring off the audience immediately.

Trailer was all right. Nothing special but it had some cool stuff with it. They're probably holding out on it. Though a teaser, it didn't get me more interested in it.
