John Cusack is attached to star in Jan de Bont's action thriller Stopping Power and Joseph Gordon-Levitt is attached as the romantic lead in producer Darren Star's directorial debut The Frog King, both projects coming from the new Intermedia-backed sales and distribution outfit IM Global.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, IM Global president Stuart Ford and Intermedia chairman Martin Schuermann said that Skip Woods (Swordfish) will write "Power" with Eric Red (The Hitcher), one of six new projects the newly named company will be selling at this month's Cannes Film Festival.

In the Intermedia Films-produced "Power," Cusack is set to star as a test pilot who sets off on a series of high-speed chases to save his kidnapped daughter from an escaped thief.

In "King," produced by Intermedia and GreeneStreet Films and written by Bret Easton Ellis, Gordon-Levitt plays a ne'er-do-well assistant editor whose penchant for messing up threatens a relationship with his dream girlfriend.

"Speed" helmer Jan de Bont's "Stopping Power" has sold in a few overseas territories, and a domestic distributor is expected to be locked by next week reports Variety.

John Cusack stars as an American tourist whose daughter is kidnapped. An average dad who just happens to be an experienced test pilot, he engages in a cat and mouse hunt for his daughter.

The $50 million flick begins shooting in August in Berlin, but what makes it unique is that the last half of the film is a 51-minute, real-time chase involving cars, helicopters and jets

:wow:De Bont returns to high concept action cinema but it's and odd choice for Cusak and i wonder if the budget is enough to attempt this type of prolonged chase..still it's interesting

Stopping Power Indeed

August 31, 2007

IM Stopping Power GmbH, a subsidiary of IM Internationalmedia AG, has announced that after finalizing preproduction the start of principal photography of the Jan de Bont-directed action thriller Stopping Power has been suspended.

Since the key investor in the film had not been able to fulfill his obligations, the Internationalmedia Group has not been able to currently close the required financing and therefore has postponed the project. The company is already seeking for alternative investors and assumes that the production can be continued shortly.

John Cusack, Jason Isaacs and Melissa George were set to star. In the story, a criminal on the run (Isaacs) steals an RV with a young girl inside, then forces the girl's father (Cusack) to participate in his getaway by acting as a decoy for the police.

I hope the cast stays on.

Stopping Power Back On
Jan De Bont will not go quietly

A couple of weeks ago it was reported that Jan De Bont's John Cusack starring thriller Stopping Power, had added the lovely Melissa George and the quite awesome Jason Isaacs to its cast. It was then reported that it had been shut down, not due to the aforementioned casting decisions.

The $40 millon production had struggled to find backing and was forced to put off filming indefinitely. But, lo, it has now found $40 million down the back of the sofa behind an old Chewit. Or from someone called R Media Acquisitions LLC. Whichever.

The movie sees Cusack as a man desperate to rescue his daughter, who was unfortunately in an RV that was stolen by a criminal (Isaacs). Isaacs then forces Cusack to help him escape, by acting as a decoy. Melissa George plays Cusack's girlfriend.

Now, somebody stump up the cash for Meg, please. We need to see a super giant shark eating boats and we are prepared to stump up £4.53 of our own cash to make it happen.

I find Cusack a very limited actor personally when he has to act out a scene where he gets angry he gets this dead look in his eyes that totally spoils these scenes.

Stopping Power Update from Cusack
Source: Edward Douglas
October 20, 2007

Earlier this week, we posted a comment from actress Melissa George that Jan de Bont's Stopping Power was ready to restart shooting in March, but when we asked John Cusack for his take on what was going on, he wasn't so sure, because it's very much a financial and legal issue that might take some time to work out, and he told us what he thought needed to be done.

"I think they have to honor it or they're going to get sued into the Stone Age," he told ComingSoon.net. "That company is liable. They didn't pay the crew, they went Enron, they were bad. That's in that weird legal place. I just know that they didn't have the money and they weren't paying people."

So at this point, who knows what's really happening? Maybe they're in the process of working these things out, but if so why doesn't the film's main star know about them restarting production? There's been a new version of the story almost every week since production came to a halt a few weeks back, and even if finishing the movie might be in everyone's best interest, it would be kind of hard to do it without the necessary funds.

Surely, we'll hear more about this in the coming months.

It might just be me, but I'm getting really tired of these articles that announce actors'/directors' new projects by using a movie title pun. Here are a few I found very easily on Comingsoon.net....

Berry and Del Toro Find Things We Lost in the Fire
Corbijn and Riley Take Control
Julie Taymor Soars Across the Universe

yeah me too... im sure the news is delayed because they're still trying to find out what pun they can make for the titles lol...
