With the pace picking up over on the Spoiler boards, here is a place to discuss The Joker in a Non-Spoilery environment! Now, since what specifically defines a "spoiler" is quite vague, here is the ground-rule I'm laying out from the get-go, so here it comes:

WARNING!

PEOPLE WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO POST MAJOR PLOT DETAILS ABOUT THE JOKER ON THIS THREAD. IF YOU KNOW ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE JOKER AT THE END OF THE FILM, DO NOT POST IT HERE.

HOWEVER...

PICTURES OF THE JOKER (OFFICIAL AND UNOFFICIAL) ARE WELCOME. AND CERTAIN SET-PIECES WE CAN ASSUME TAKE PLACE BASED ON SET PICS/REPORTS CAN BE SPECULATED ON.

Got it? Good.

With that over and done with, now we can discuss what this thread is about. This thread is about everything Joker-related. The main goal is to discuss The Joker, as portrayed by Heath Ledger in "The Dark Knight". What would you like to see from his characterisation and appearance?

That said, off-topic tangents are welcome. Feel free to discuss portrayals of The Joker in the comics, the cartoons, and the movies of the past. And any cool Joker pictures/video from any of these interpretations is welcome to.

Now that's all the boring stuff covered, let's get to talking about The Joker!

I've been reading over on the spoiler forum for a couple weeks and agree with the post you started over there about the spoilers. I look forward to discussions over here with out the whole plot getting spoiled for me! I do agree in wanting to see pics of the joker and smaller stuff like that. So hopefully things will pick up over here!

I'm going to be hopping back and forth between both. Don't worry im not immature and stupid like a lot of morons around here can be. You have my word that when im over here I won't post any spoilers. I agree that even in the spoilers forum you should have to warn people first. Like if I wanted to know what the Joker looked like I could go over there, but I don't want to know any surprise plot twists or deaths.

So far im happy with the Joker. Some people have complained and *****ed about "teh panda eyez" but in his first appearance as well as BTAS he had black around his eyes. I just can't wait to see and hear him in action, to get for myself a complete opinion if I like it or not.

I'm trying to stay away big spoilers, so I hope to limit myself to this side of the forums unless there are small bits and pieces of spoilery that won't give away major details.

That said, I couldn't be happier with Mister J's wardrobe too!

Exactly. I'm digging the way he's looking now and cant wait to see/hear him in action. It'd be nice to be able to know if he's in the trailer or not but it seems on the other side if you want to try to find any of that out you have to sift through ten pages that post completely random spoilers to find out

Me too. My intention is to make it basically like "The Man Who Laughs: The Joker Thread". Where we can all talk about The Joker, and discuss how he is going to turn out in this movie. Except, on this thread, in the coming months we'll be free of off-topic spoiler gushing.

I have actually been in the belief for some time that a lot of people who didn't care much for the look would be won over by the psychology and just the general portrayal of the Joker by Goyer, Nolan, and especially Ledger.

Ledger really is a good actor, and just recently has gotten into more mature roles where he can shine as a serious actor. I'm sure the Joker gives Ledger a role to really show himself in, and we most likely will not be disappointed. Judging by the bits we've got from the viral marketing so far, and Ledger's acting abilities. I never doubted the portrayal of Joker as done be Nolan and Ledger, I knew and still do know they are going to nail it.

Yea, the problem with the non-spoiler section is there isn't really anything to do while there is no news.

Build it, and they will come! Granting they can beat their addiction to spoilers

I think the same thing. People are talking about how it's not The Joker if he has a cut-smile, or its not The Joker if he applies make-up. But isn't it The Joker if the PERFORMANCE is absolute classic Joker?

Yup, and I'm sorry but I just think people make far too big a deal out of the smile.


Extreme fanboys will kill the anticipation of this movie for me far more than Chris Nolan ever could. I know the arguments, but the point is that it is simply a scared face that gives prominence to his smile. Why is it such a big deal?

Hey, don't knock Jack Nicholson!

I don't like this line of thinking where you have to "choose a side". Jack Nicholson was a great Joker. He's regarded as one of the greatest movie villains of all time. All over the world, when people think Joker, they think "Jack". THAT is the hurdle Heath Ledger and Christopher Nolan REALLY have to overcome, not a cut-smile and make-up...

There are so many interpretation of the character. Some people act like he has not changed at all over the last sixty years. Yet like the Bat hes has evolved and Nolan's Vision seems to be close to the original concept with some nice modern traits mixed in.

I am still adjusting to the look but I can say I don't completely hate it. I really need to see him in action to judge better. The way he carries himself is incredibly important and could easily sway my opinion!

I really don't think it is make up. I know the whole neck with no make up thing is there, but I'm willing to bet he doesn't paint himself white. I'd imagine Goyer seeing that and thinking "no no no no". lol

I really loved the BB trailer so that the viewers didn't even know it was a Batman movie until the very end. I would like to see a normal bank heist trailer with the very last couple seconds show either the Joker, a joker card, or the joker laughing. I know it is along the same lines of BB trailer- but it would definitely take the audience by surprise- which is the whole point.
