Vicky Vale has her own thread so I thought it only right that Batman's first flame got her own thread as well. This is a thread for all things Julie Madison.

Julie Madison first appears in Detective Comics #31 (September 1939http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1939) only four issues after Batman's own debut.

She is originally portrayed an oft-imperiled socialite/actress who dates Bruce Wayne when not being rescued by Batman. Most significantly, Julie is used as a pawn in the vampiric Monk's battle with the Dark Knight. Julie is engaged to Bruce Wayne for a while, until she ends the relationship because Bruce wouldn't find a serious career; she of course did not know about his secret identity.

She is revealed to have been an actress in Detective Comics #40. She made her last appearance in the early series in Detective Comics #49, where she is targeted for revenge by Basil Karlo, the original Clayface, because she starred in the remake of one of Karlo's films. It is later revealed that she becomes a star under the stage name "Portia Storme." In the same story she ends her engagement to Bruce Wayne and dresses as Robin in a plan to fool Clayface, becoming the first female to done the costume.

Julie Madison reappears in two World's Finest stories in the 1970s as Princess Portia, ruler of the fictional country of Moldacia. This was intended as a loose parallel to Grace Kelly becoming Princess Grace of Monaco.

I can't find many pictures of her, if anybody has pictures please post 'em!

or.....not?

Nobody likes Julie Madison? I haven't read Matt Wagner's stories that she was revamped in yet, I'm interested to see what he did with the character, as I've never really seen a version of her other than the one that appeared in the two early dc comics. I find the Grace Kelly angle appealing though.

Don't forget that she was Bruce Wayne's love interest in Batman & Robin, played by Elle Macpherson.

It warms my heart to see a thread inspired by my own Vicki one :)

Was she ever in the old serials?

It's kinda good that in the movies she was the first female Bruce dated that didn't find out about Batman, but probably the most ironically stupid, since they were engaged to be married, unlike the rest.

This is a page from the Monster Men. Julie reminds me of the movie Vicki Vale, mainly since she spends a large amount of time in Bruce's bed lol

Meh, she's a side-piece in Monster Men/Mad Monk. Still worth a few pages of time though, just to flesh out the character.

Wasn't there a scene omitted in B&R where she is stabbed to death by Ivy?

Yup, as all the rumours go. It didn't fit with the tone of the movie. If such a scene does exist, I don't see how it could have fitted in- Bruce doesn't seem angry or vengeful that his fiancée has been murdered, but then it could just have been George Clooney's acting.

lol, yeah I heard that rumour, but I don't see how it would fit in, but meh, with Schumachers record it was probably the set piece of the film.

Maybe in an earlier script draft?

I just don't think they've taken advantage of this angle enough in the bat-mythos. Apparently she was his first love and was his fiancee? There are lots of things you could do with a woman Bruce is so enamored with that he is engaged to her. I mean I guess it doesn't make any sense, but hey neither does Robin. I'd have liked to see that explored in the 80s after the crisis revamp. They could've done tons of stories with that character for at least a year. What do you guys think?

She was in Monster Men and Mad Monk, but they killed her off pretty quick. Meh, she didn't really add much TBH, I prefer the whole Selina Kyle love story, it's so much more symbolic.

that's true, but I guess I just feel like there's a lot of stuff they could've done with Julie, sucks that they killed her off.

True, they could have kept her around and developed her for a bit longer, I mean there's not even room for like an inter-mission story because she is introduced in Monster Men and dies in Mad Monk. Shame really. She was just cannon fodder I suppose.

She didn't die in Mad Monk.
Upon Bruce revealing he was Batman to her, she leaves him and joins the peace corps, unable to cope with the fact that Bruce was Batman.

Oh shoot... My bad, you're right, same difference though, she left forever, she ain't coming back.

Ok...I can't believe there is not a thread for Chase Meridian.

She was made up for the movie....right? I do have a cutout of her poster in my room though

I think so yeah, that must be a gooooooood poster... Reminds me of the time that Nicole Kidman was hot.
