Jurassic Park Apparently Possible

Crazy. Hope this means that they can bring back the Tasmanian Tiger.

Cloning dinosaurs would be too difficult, but how about cloning the 50 foot long alligator from the late Creatceous period, Deinosuchus?

Since deinosuchus was already very much like modern-day gators, he might be easier to clone and would probably have a better chance of surviving. :woot::up:

In a fantasy world, cloning dinosaurs would be great. We could have them in special zoos and on nature reserves and study them as we do modern animals. The reality is that the world is VASTLY different than it was during the Cretaceous period, and even more different than the earlier periods. Dinosaurs would quickly fall prey to changes in the environment, diseases, and other factors. Their resurrection would be short, painful and cruel.

well that's debatable. It's not like you're using time travel. These dino's would grow in this new environment and most likely adapt to it. They should have all the immunities to disease there non-extinct birth parents have.

At least they're not planning to clone Michael Phelps.

How is it animal abuse if it never existed in the first place?

If they continue to create animals from cloned material who live short, painful lives because of the genetic problems that occur... yeah, I'd say that's pretty cruel.

Real raptors were like, the size of small dogs though... weren't they?

The movie was pretty accurate in its representation of the dinosaurs.

Not really. Velociraptor was roughly 3 feet tall and 6 feet long, the "raptors" in the film were likely Deinonychus, a related species. Both species were likely to be feathered as well, although this was theorized after the movie came out.

weren't the raptors in the movies the Utah raptors? which were about man size and larger?

there was alot of breeds of raptor, all different sizes.

Oh I thought you guys were talking specifically about the velicoraptor. I actually didn't know there were different kinds!

Utahraptor was larger, and likely didn't hunt in packs due to it's size. Then again, it's assumed that Allosaurus was an occasional pack hunter, and they were larger.

they probably just made and almagnum of raptors together. and just called them Velociraptors because it sounds more dangerous... stupid movies

Utahraptor was too big and bulky to be the raptors seen in the JP movies.

Superferret is correct in stating that they were more like Deinonychus based on their size and skull shape.

The raptors in JPIII looked a little more like the real velociraptors, but they were still a little too big.

Velociraptor is easier to pronounce and spell than Deinonychus, plus the book got it wrong too. The movie is responsible for the tiny Dilophosaurus though.
