Wow I just heard about this controversy. Glad to hear someone's calling the movie out.
 
I have to admit that my hype levels have dropped for this movie. Hopefully the next trailer will bring the goods.
 
SMH..... So..... How about the Jurassic World movie that is coming out in a couple months?

For one thing, all of Pratt's character's responses are barbed with oddly sexual undertones. Imagine if you worked with one of your exes. Making those kinds of comments would lead to a sexual harassment suit.

Mostly though its just a matter of cliched, limiting, character types.

Yeah, I noticed that. I don't think it's "sexist", but it is unnecessary. Stuff like that shouldn't be in a movie like Jurassic Park. Feels more like a Transformers movie or something. Stupid.

"Sexist" doesn't necessarily mean misogynist or hateful. The clip has the obviously supercool badass lead choosing to deal with the female character only in sexual terms even when it shouldn't have anything to do with the conversation.

They should really just consider releasing another damn clip.
 
Definitely need to release something else asap. I don't know why they bothered releasing that anyway, it's just a random part of the film without much appeal even if it had been a cool clip. I thought the idea of releasing clips early was to build some excitement.

Joss Whedon reminds me of one of those insecure creepy guys from high school who was obsessed with the head cheerleader, and she would never bang him, but he was her best friend and was obsessed with her and basically stalked her, but she never realized it and just treated him like her brother. And he was in constant emotional agony because he never grew the balls to tell her, so he just creepily existed in her life and she thought he was sensitive and nice and caring, while he secretly spelled her name with candles in his lair made out of newspaper clippings.

But I didn't use candles! The dancing flames made my mom's basement way too spooky, with moving shadows and...
 
To me there IMHO a double standard here. You can arguably make these same comparisons for plenty of movies and TV shows that don't get criticisms as being misogynist or sexist.

Granted, Jurassic World is not necessarily a movie I am rooting for. I'm not expecting a whole hell of a lot out of it.

Didn't you know? A guy can't joke about sex without being sexist these days. Lets all conveniently forget his womanizing ways and sexual quips in GOTG. But Whedon said something, so it must be true.

Sorry if this is snarky, but this PC BS is so out of hand these days.

Let's not get carried away. He made two sexual jokes. TWO. That's it. Most of his dialogue had nothing to do with sex. Second, it's obvious they know each other and are comfortable with each other. She doesn't seem hurt or perved out by his comments because GASP! she seems like a grounded female character! Sexual harassment? Maybe, but obviously it's not because she seems to be able to take a joke.

I could see the point in Whedon's obvious low blow if Owen and Claire didn't know each other and he was just being piggish to be piggish because "Rawr Imma MAN!" But that's not the case.

And really, Malcolms behavior in the first film seems much more in bad form than Owens. Why? Well, he didn't know Sattler beforehand. He just meets her and starts commenting on her looks in front of her colleague/partner as well as other strangers. He also totally touches her a lot during his Chaos Theory demonstration AND questions Grant about her availability. Yea, Ellie takes it in stride. But SO DOES CLAIRE! We don't know the entire context of Owens and Claires relationship, but from what we do know his PG-13 sexual jokes are fine with her.

Why no outrage over Malcolm? Yea, his suggestive nature is tamer than Owens more upfront jokes...but why does that make it better? It doesn't. It's much more lecherous imo because Malcolm makes his position known to her and the rest of the group from the get go. That is sexual harassment too, if you want to go there. So why not call this out? Nostalgia? Bias? Or has PC crap just taken over everything so completely?

I will concede the character types are cliched, but so what? Again, we don't know the whole context. If anything that clip semi confirms what I hoped the film would do: Give the characters some down to Earth qualities.
