Article celebrating ILM for anyone interested. Great stuff.

I'm intolerant of crackpots, creationists, and general anti-science movements. Those who peddle homeopathy, global warming denial, etc. are also on my **** list.

It's not the case that every other film has anti-intellectual messages in its advertising. The first Iron Man is a counter example on my mind so I'll mention that one.

I can assure you there's nothing intellectual about belittling others' beliefs or name-calling.

And I actually said every other film was doing "otherwise"; not the same.

JW will be good with reasonable expectations.

Yes, I would not argue that the writing shown in the trailers is pretty bad/simple/on-the-nose, but I think you need to reread DA’s post because I think you missed his point, which was not about the quality of writing, but what he thinks the film represents. He thinks the film is geared towards creationists, and that it promotes an anti-intellectual, knowledge is wrong ideal. If you look at the trailer or have ANY knowledge of Jurassic Park, and honestly think that, then you have missed the point entirely or are looking for reasons to complain about something.

The film is clearly continuing the notion that genetic tampering and careless experimentation is wrong, but with the added problem of doing so for commercial gain, where profit is more important than responsibility or threat of consequence. It’s damning the corruption of science for financial gain, not damning science itself. The fact that a few lines in the trailer (poorly) phrase this out of context doesn't change that fact.

This isn't the original JP ane it's being made by a different team of creatives. It's like the Terminator franchise, I make no assumption that Genesys will share the same themes as the 1984 film.

But who knows -- perhaps this movie will be much better than its marketing. I hope so for both JW and Genysis.

First, you're right, I misread your post.

Second, what is infinitely more belittling than a couple posts of mine are the marketing for this movie. It's condescending. Joss Whedon has already pointed out the misogyny, at first he drew a loud sigh but then people saw the clip and largely agreed with him. The current of anti-intellectuality in the other ad ties into that. Who do you think they're trying to appeal to?

Honestly, Pratt comes off as more of a satire of a fratboy than an actual fratboy.

But couldn't the argument be made that Lost World wasn't very good by comparison to JP but it was made by the same team of creatives?

It's baffling the last three comments DA Champ has made is just digging the hole a little deeper. I wish it wasn't so though, but damn.

Lets talk about dinos. They don't get involved in politics.

Im still thinking this will be the biggest film this summer after Age of Ultron

I hope. Since AOU is over and done, I realize it didn't satisfy my summer movie craving. I think JW has that potential if for nothing else due to nostalgia.

Curious what are some of your guys scenes you enjoy from JP3? I know we don't discuss the third film much or discuss it positively, but I was wondering.

This scene for me I still quite enjoy. Especially love the beginning when Eric is walking across and we hear the loud sound of the pteranodon landing on the walkway and see the handle on the side shake. And then see the pteranodon emerge walking through the fog and mist, a really really awesome shot.

This ^^^

I don't want anymore discussion on gender roles in movies or political ideals etc..... If you guys want to talk about that make a separate thread for it.

If someone has a question for me then pester me via my PM box, I don't intend to take up the next few pages with discussions taking the thread further off topic.

I'm going to be completely honest, this is the movie I'm most looking forward to this year, and all I want to see are amazing dinos and a serviceable storyline (at least...better than 3 hopefully). Every trailer and commercial looks like so much fun. I'm not like that about everything, but I do love me some dinosaurs. I really can't wait for this one.

With that said, I both love and hate the latest commercial showing the attack on the petting zoo. The pteranodon carrying off the poor, screaming baby triceratops was really pretty crazy, but I was very happy to see it get dropped back down right at the last second. I think I just found a moment more tense than the cliched "Will the dog survive or not?" scenario. It's the, "Will the crazy cute baby dino wearing an adorable saddle survive or not?" :ilv:
