Jurassic World - Part 8

If by "weird" you mean "ominous," then I'd have to say I agree there.

Weird that it lifts on Wednesday.

While I did here that the movie premier is tomorrow and that kind of fells late to. Having this Wednesday thing does scare me some. There are very very few movies that I have felt a big disappointment on or even hated that I thought looked good though. I would say like 95% of the time I can tell if I am going to like or love a movie from the previews and this movie looks great to me from the previews.

So is there any up to date OW predations? I think I heard 123 million last I heard.

Yes, that is a better word.

People keep bringing up Mad Max but the fact of the matter is most movies that wait a day or two before release to allow reviews to be posted will be getting middling reviews at best. I'm hoping I'm wrong.

Middling reviews doesn't mean that it won't be a fun film to me and others of course but I am expecting middling reviews at best right now.

Whose taking things out of context? I asked a simple question. The raptors in film one set a trap. So why wouldnt one dinosaur be able to push another dinosaur off a ledge that it can clearly see?

Dolphins are highly intelligent. Crows are great problem solvers. Some pack animals can set traps and hunt and are intelligent enough to hold grudges against one individual animal. Hell, ants have proven themselves to be problem solvers. Animals are a lot smarter than you give them credit for. So this dinosaur having the wherewithal to do what it does is not farfetched.

The implication was that
Rexy somehow would have the wherewithal to know the Mosasaurus is in the lagoon, despite never being near its lagoon before and then plan to push the iRex into the Mosasaurus's reach. To me, there is a big difference between setting up a simple ambush/classical animal pack hunting behaviours like in the original Jurassic Park and using another animal as a weapon against its foe. Moreover, both research and past films have established that Dromaeosaurs were a good bit more intelligent than Tyrannosaurs.

Gonna see how it plays out in the film considering we are going off the Lego game here.

Indeed. And the thing about Mad Max is, its embargo didn't lift the Wednesday before, it lifted the Monday before. Just a couple of days difference but it speaks volumes, imo. And some random reviews were published a week before on that one, too.

But it's fine. If this gets middling reviews, there's still a chance there's stuff I'll enjoy about it.

When the first movie in the franchise is well received (Superman The movie, Jurassic Park) and the last movie is not (Superman Returns, Jurassic Park 3), A movie will get middling reviews (for example Man of Steel) due to unreasonable expectations.

Studios have to prepare for that.

Or due to being a middling movie.

Considering I don't read/care about reviews or ratings this embargo means nothing to me haha. I'm just getting super anxious now for Saturday afternoon so I can go and finally see this. I'm seeing it in RPX anyone ever seen anything in RPX?

Yeah, it's basically an off-brand LieMax. I have both RPX and LieMax near me, and I choose LieMax, but when whatever I want to see isn't showing on the IMAX screen at my theater, RPX makes for a decent substitute.

Will I regret getting an RPX ticket? Haha it's all I could get so.

Mad Max (well received) > Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome (poorly received) > Mad Max: Fury Road (well received).

Batman (well received) > Batman & Robin (poorly received) > Batman Begins (well received).

Etc...

I'm probably going to see Jurassic World but I've been having reservations about it for a while now. Not that I was ever expecting a great movie because I wasn't. I expect nothing more than a fun popcorn movie...like the original.

I like the original because of the excellent direction/set pieces but I've always felt that it's script and characters were mostly weak. The Hammond character is great and Jeff Goldblum is Jeff Goldblum so those are the exceptions on the character front.

Yeah, I can give some counter examples to what I posted as well, like -

Casino Royale (well received) --> Quantum of Solace (poorly received) --> Skyfall (well received)

But, I consider those as exceptions.:p

Studios (and fans always have to expect a mediocre - middling reception)

I disagree, I think Alan Grant is a great character. I liked his interplay with the kids and his relationship with Dr. Sattler.

I don't get why that would be a thing to expect, just by virtue of being a new entry in a franchise with that review pattern, when there are more than enough examples to the contrary? As Flickchick said, it's got to do with the quality of the movie itself, not it's various predecessors.

As much as I really want to give this film a chance a problem has existed with this franchise ever since the first film came out that was reaffirmed when JP was re-released 2 years ago - it's nigh impossible to recapture the magic that was that first film, to this day it still holds up as one of the best cinema experiences you're likely to get.

Ok so does this mean you're not gonna bother seeing it or? Not sure what you're saying.

A negative reaction from a forum:

Nothing about the film works. Lazy script reliant on what they think people like about JP and totally devoid of their own ideas. Some all time bad dialogue. BDH's character is an utter disaster, a shrill who runs around in heels and doesn't get to do anything fun. Pratt works fine but he's way better than this, never gets to be self-depercating so it felt like anybody could've played this role.

Soulless cashgrab sequel with more product placement than I've ever seen in a film.

ON THE ACTION:

Way less action than I expected, but that was clearly the only thing engaging my audience. The swoop from the trailers down onto the front of the park starts very nicely but it gets Piranha 3D kind of violent in one part of the scene and I found the tone shift viscerally disgusting. The final fight is all dark and CGI fighting CGI, basically unwatchable.

I have a theory about his Piranha 3D comment:

Zara's mean spirited death.

They can get the negative reaction and shove it you know where.

I'm seeing it this Friday with an open mind (as a movie critic should). I'm not expecting a Best Picture contender here. I am not expecting a revolution is visual effects (as JP) so I am expecting to see a fun adventure with dinosaurs. An entertainment. If I am entertained at the end, then I will give it a positive review.

So it is a person's fault for expecting a good movie?

Why get so worked up about some reviews? Just go see the movie :)

I love the "Our Rex is bigger than yours" soundtrack. So much FEELS!
