Jurassic World

So has anyone heard any news on this movie at all? New plot rumors? Casting? Characters? Anything?

I haven't but I wonder if they pull this off if they'll try to remake jaws as well?

Thinking they want a reboot and another trilogy. Too lucrative not to start over. You can pave JP 4 to be the beginning of the next trilogy, but honestly, do they even have enough material for that from a creative standpoint? What else can they possibly give us? Dinos invading the mainland in the modern day? They'd be exterminated if that were the case. I think it's just a waste of money, but that's because I don't have any ideas myself.

Jaws is a movie I'd like to see remade in spirit. We've had plenty of shark movies but almost none that were truly like Jaws.

Jurassic Park is a franchise with a lot of potential but a tricky story to pull off. If you get them on the mainland it has to be an isolated area and have a believable explanation for how no one notices them. If they stick to the island you have to figure out how to keep getting people there that get into trouble. Without it feeling like a rehash of the previous movies.

I know a remake won't happen and I wouldn't want one. I just want a shark movie like it.

Jurassicnado

A Time Traveling Tornado comes to Present Day with Dinosaurs in them

That's an Asylum/SyFy movie if I ever heard one.

Hate to go off-topic in a confused rage, but does those Asylum idiots have some kind of shark fetish or something? CAUSE PRACTICALLY 75% OF THEIR MOVIES THAT ARE NOT BLATANT CASH-GRAB RIPP-OFFS ARE SHARK-RELEATED OR SHARKS CROSSED WITH SOMETHING!! And WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP WATCHING THEM?! THEY ALL SUCK!

Sorry, I just had to vent for a sec.

You answered your own rage question.

I feel like they may remake Jaws years from now. Like, after we're all dead. If King Kong wasn't safe from being remade, then what makes Jaws so different?

I honestly would take a remake of Jaws using the JP franchise. the plot rumors for IV mentioned an underwater section of the park, so sub in sharks for dinosaurs and we'd have something different. I don't want an Asylum crapfest of a film, but a serious one of prehistoric animals escaping into the oceans, and on one side the government moving to stop them, and then the locals of whatever area effected taking matters into their own hands, with predictable results for the most part, but of course we'd have our Brody, our Hooper, and our Quint (possibly Grant or Malcolm, although not likely to die).

I think it could work anyway.

The correct term is probably a 'soft reboot' which doesn't ignore what happened before but starts a new arc with new characters.

Tervorrow updated some stuff.

One apparently key rumour-busting quote goes like this: “I saw some of the rumours on the internet and I would have all kinds of red flags going off if I heard they were going to muzzle a T-Rex. So I would say don’t believe everything you read, there are way more insiders on the internet than there are in real life.”

“What is my favourite dinosaur? We have a new one that’s pretty cool. I’m not going to tell you anything about it, but… it’s pretty bad ass. I think Jack Horner said something about that too”

Trevorrow says “It’s important to make a movie for the fans but I also have to remember that there’s a lot of people who just couldn’t care less and need me to make a solid case for why the hell there’s a Jurassic Park 4 in the first place and I want to make a movie for them too.”

They didn't get into that so it's still not officially one thing or another yet.

King Kong is a bad example. There have been half a dozen movies, including the 70s remake and it's own sequel. Not only that, but none of the King King films had the level of influence on the culture of cinema that Jaws did.

Will this be a soft reboot?

When a film series gets a new sequel after a long time like this, it will probably be considered a soft reboot, despite everything in the past 3 films being "canon".

urm.. what? I don't think you know your movie history very well....

Now there's an idea! One of the dinosaurs that had been cloned for JP4 is a megalodon, the prehistoric ancestor of most modern day sharks (though most closely resembling the great white, due to its size if nothing else). At some point during JP4, the megalodon (or at least one of its juvenile offspring) manages to escape into the ocean. Thus allowing for a Jaws remake which is also a JP spinoff.

I'd like my $1million now Hollywood. Cash is preferred, or you can deposit it directly into my bank account.

The main question I have is where would you get megalodon DNA? Or any aquatic animal for that matter? I doubt there were sea-mosquitoes and I don't know of any way to extract DNA from fossilized teeth.

That said, I really wish the Meg movie would get off the ground. Steve Alten has been promising a movie adaptation of his book for like a decade now.

You'd best be splitting that with me :cwink:

Good to hear new thoughts from Trevorrow. I cannot wait for this film.

He's saying all the right things, but that doesn't mean those rumors aren't completely untrue.
