Jurassic World

The kid in Iron Man 3 really got on my nerves after a while.

It wasn't necessarily so much his acting, but he got waaaay too much screentime.

I didn't think Lex and Tim were annoying in Jurassic Park. I mean, they were, but in a "typical kid" way, not overly so (except for their stupid crap when the T-Rex broke out, with Lex waving a flashlight in its face and Tim slamming the car door).

Lex and Tim were fine too.

The only time kids really annoy me in films is if they can't act for crap (Jake Lloyd in TPM), if they're the stereotypical annoying, entitled teenager whose only purpose is to whine, roll their eyes and be spoiled (Dana Brody in 'Homeland' is a good example of this, but a lot of teen characters in almost every TV show or movie) or if they're engineered to be overly cute in order to emotionally manipulate the audience (like the kid from Jerry Maguire). But if kids avoid these tropes (or short-comings) and serve the plot, they're fine.

Would you of rather gotten more of the other poorly written characters in the film? The kid was one of the only characters that had much meat on it's bones aside from Stark himself.

All IM3 bashing aside, I think the kid is good enough to carry himself in a Jurassic Park movie, I'm much more eager at this point to get a solid story announced I'm getting quite excited about this.

The whole "Kids like kids being in movies because it gives them someone to relate to" argument is just wrong. Even when I was a kid, I hated when other kids were in the movies, taking up screen time, being annoying. I wanted to watch the grown ups doing their thing. I never wanted to be Robin, just Batman.

That said, the only kids I remember liking were Lex and Tim (other than the previously mentioned flashlight/door slam incident).

I don't recall having a problem with the kid himself in IM3, just some of the obvious "director feeds him lines from just off camera and he tries them out" improv they were awkwardly making him do for half his stuff then pulling it together in post. Ugh. Just write a real script. And he made no real sense in the story, thematically or plot wise.

But the kid actor himself... was fine.

Yay, more Iron Man 3 bashing.

Anyways, this kid can act pretty well. Glad he got the roll.

Actually yea, Don Cheadle or Guy Pearce especially.

The Jurassic Park kids were not only annoying (kid following Sam Neill like an idiot) but also provoked the T-Rex attack because they knew lights were not to be turned on and that's the one thing they did. Somehow Spielberg think that that kind of stupidity is adorable or something.

I also agree that IM3 kid was acceptable.

But never mind, most audiences seem to accept this cliche children pretty well.
Tim following Grant around was supposed to be annoying, for Grant at least. You're seriously going to hate a 10 year old because he's excited to spend the weekend with his hero and is too young to understand that Grant wants nothing to do with him? Not to mention those scenes were important for Grant's character growth. As for the kids instigating the Rex attack I disagree. The Rex had already killed one of them and was on the hunt for the rest - the attack had already started. Yes, Lex shining the light got his attention, and was a "dumb move", but I looked at is as a computer geek recalling that fire scares animals away and the flash light, in her mind, was the closest thing to replicating that. Dumb move sure, but there was logic to it.

In any case, the kids in JP1 were the absolutely LEAST annoying characters in the franchise, and most movies in general. Honestly, the only other movie I can think of that featured kids who I enjoyed was Goonies.

Let's also not neglect the fact that they were smarter than (other than Malcolm, Grant, Tembo & a little wiser than eric) every character in TLW & JP3.

Hey, I assume you're talking about Eddie. Show a little respect, he risked his life to save ours!

Except Data...I wished he would have had a rock fall on him in the cave.

Timmy and Lex were great. I don't see how they were 'annoying'. Usually people who say such things need to raise their tolerance level a bit. Also that iconic T-Rex intro scene wouldn't be effective without the children, as they're being attacked.

Seeing the kids in that vulnerable situation is something very scary and unsettling, as it resonates with you as an audience member. If Grant and Malcolm got attacked instead, it could be still intense....but they're adults. They're scientists. They can be resourceful. It's not the same dynamic.

And may I add:

It makes sense if there is a kid in Jurassic World IF indeed it's a THEME PARK. Theme parks for families, be it Disneyland or a fictional one with cloned dinosaurs.

I'll say it a again. It's deranged to hate kids in films simply because they're kids.

I get disliking certain tropes. I dislike them myself. I can't stand the
"wise beyond their years" kids in movies that talk and think like adults and help the main character with some pivotal arc and give him/her some kind of speech. That crap is awful but it not the kids fault. Its the writer and directors fault.

If one finds an adult a bad actor is just "eh, they suck." If one see's a kid in a movie give a bad performance it's like WWIII started. It gets much more vitriol and venom then an equally bad adult. Why is that? What causes people to get so homicidal over children actors in movies?

We hate what we used to be.

‘Jurassic World’ Adding ‘Kings of Summer’ Star Nick Robinson

The 18 year-old actor is expected to play Ty Simpkins’ older brother in Universal’s 3D sequel
Hot off his breakout performance in “The Kings of Summer,” Nick Robinson is in talks to join the cast of Universal’s “Jurassic World,” an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.
Robinson has an offer to join Bryce Dallas Howard and “Insidious” star Ty Simpkins in the Colin Trevorrow-directed sequel to Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park.”
Robinson is expected to play Simpkins’ older brother in the 3D film, which Universal will release on June 12, 2015.
Spielberg is producing with Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley. Trevorrow will direct from a script he wrote with frequent collaborator Derek Connolly.
Robinson, who stars on ABC Family’s “Melissa & Joey,” earned strong reviews for leading turn in Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ coming-of-age comedy “The Kings of Summer,” which CBS Films released earlier this year.
He’s repped by UTA, Principato-Young Entertainment and the Savage Agency.

All this casting is good but I'm more excited to see what Colin does. hes a great director

I hope Jake Johnson is in this. I could see Johnson as a new Ian Malcolm or Nick Van Owen type character

Now all we need is one of the kids from Super 8, lol.

Well, at least they're not just cherry picking randoms for the roles. The first two have done some decent work.

I just want official word on the story... And Neil AND Goldblum back together, but I don't think that'll happen.

Exactly. A variety of people go to these places.

There are silly things that happen, turning the torch on at the T-Rex, etc. But it all adds to the drama. They're doing what they think is right. Kids in scary situations = finding the hero within. Being brave.

Hey, I assume you're talking about Eddie. Show a little respect, he risked his life to save ours!

Then his problems are over. My point is, predators don't hunt when they're not hungry. :o

Probably not, I'm sure they'd love too, but I doubt it. Funny thing is, when they shot JP3, Neill was the perfect age for Grant via the books, lol.

The IM 3 kid was really good, so that choice is good by me. I don't know who the other one is, so I can't comment on his suitability.
