Sony's been working on several live action TV projects as reported this past Summer.

As there have been a number of movies pertaining to villains coming out, I have to wonder if Kaine is a character that could or should be explored at some point in a live action Scarlet Spider TV series.

***The "Regeneration Tank" pictured above is where various clones are kept by the Jackal in a state of stasis before they're activated or can be used to heal (de-age?) if injured. Kain presumably emerged from something similar and uses one of these to heal at one point. Sometimes non-clones such as the Jackal have been known to utilize these as well to go into a state of suspended animation.

    Brief Introduction:
Kaine was initially conceived as Spider-Man's original clone created by the Jackal in the infamous mid-90's Spider-Man comics. He's imperfect in that there's a lot of facial scarring due to the "degeneration factor" that most clones die from yet he does so only slowly.

He feels like a totally different character to Peter Parker in that he's at a slight disadvantage without web shooters having not taken the time to develop this. Still, all other powers are similar to Spider-Man's yet amped up considerably. He also has a couple claws that retract from the bottom wrist area along with a burning touch he puts on the faces of various criminals or clones that he harbors great resentment towards.

A Bit of History: 1973-1975 the "Original Clone Saga" had unintentional ambiguity at the end as Peter Parker's clone is disposed of in a smokestack. In the mid-90's the mega comics crossover event known as "The Clone Saga" took place asking the question what if Peter Parker was disposed of in the smokestack when Ben Reilly is introduced. That being said, there was so much editorial backtrack that in the end any reader that followed through everything is sure to be confused by loosends that were never tied up with one example being that the character disposed of in the smokestack never really was answered firmly as at first it was thought to be Ben Reilly then Spider-Man then neither. In any case, Kain is an earlier failed attempt at the Jackal cloning Spider-Man that is much different from him.

Small Scale Adaptation?: Marvel Studio's would not go the route of utilizing this character nor would Sony in a Theatrical release from a popularity or feasibility standpoint. There was talk earlier this summer of a TV series separate from the movies loosely rumored to feature the Scarlet Spider but that's supposedly dead for now with a deal unable to be reached with Marvel Studio's not to mention that Sony may get sold out to Apple or some other company. (UPDATE: As of 9/27/19 Sony and Marvel have reached an agreement for their next Theatrical Release. Where this leaves Sony's other projects such as their reported live action TV series remains to be seen)

Still, perhaps a lower budgeted Spider-Man related property presenting an interesting alternative take would be fun to see?

If a Scarlet Spider Live Action TV series is made I think adapting this character into live action would be easier for this character in an episodic format with a longer plot that can be based in an alternate reality from the movies.

Who here remembers the prequel based limited series entitled "The Lost Years" with Kaine and Ben Reilly? It's not classic storytelling by any means but I read it as a kid and it felt like a deconstructed take on the Spider-Man character (Ben Reilly and arch-nemesis Kaine) drifting through American towns and cities that is different.

Spider-man: Redemption was a follow-up miniseries to this that again was not a classic by any means but provides an interesting template for an adaptation to borrow from as well as it's set in NYC this time around as Kain's health worsens and the storyline of Lost Years is continued upon.

Overall, these miniseries are pretty self-contained so I think are the best starting point adaption wise as this character (as mentioned) has the misfortune of being tied to what is commonly perceived as a major bungle that was the clone saga in the mid-90's Spider-Man comics. Still, while the 90's clone saga was a mess, I think there were many classic moments within it.

Kaine had some memorable moments ranging from killing off classic Spider-Man foes to saving Peter Parker as he was on trial. Supposedly on the verge of dying, he enters a regeneration tank and emerges fully restored but isn't utilized much afterwards until many years later...

More recently (now being years ago), he's been depicted differently appearing in Houston as a revamped version of The Scarlet Spider under his own title. As many writers and artists come and go this rendition of Kaine has him taking on the name of the Scarlet Spider (his arch nemesis in the 90's comics that he wouldn't be caught dead doing). He also has much less facial scarring than the 90's version.

The Ultimate Universe version (with seemingly blind eye unlike the 616 version) moreso resembles a slimmed down version of the character as he initially appears in the "Trial of Peter Parker" 616 storyline although I do like the biker look in The Lost Years miniseries more so:

Is there room for a different take on Spider-Man or only room for 1 interpretation?
