Watch this trailer... it looks beautiful.. epic.

Actually, it's kind of odd seeing Kal Penn do a serious role after all his comedy bits in Van Wilder as well as Harold and Kumar although it seems he surprisingly has quite a good amount of dramatic acting ability based off the trailer.

Thoughts?

Kal Penn is a serious movie  Shocking :wow:

Penn is popping up in everything, i want to see how he plays out in 24 this season

Kal Penn is the ****. Although, I must say, it felt really weird seeing him beat up Superman.

good actor, but i prefer him in comedic roles

I knew he was destined for greatness when I saw Superman Returns

I think it looks pretty good. I like stories about people's journey's into their own family history. Probably why I enjoyed Everything Is Illuminated so much

On the genre, he's done a lot of movies about second generation indian immigrant offspring. I'd almost call him an activist. I saw another with him about a year ago called Dude, Where's the Party? and it was same subject matter: Mostly about how second generation indian immigrants, hate new immigrants more than other groups within a country and moreover, how Indian immigrant offspring in the west, often have a distaste for their heritage. It's really interesting.

This movie should be good, and Kal will bring some lightheartedness to a film that looks quite heavy

Yeah I've seen that one too, however that was also a comedy. Part of the reason 'The Namesake' looks so fresh is because I don't think we've ever seen Kal like this before. I can't imagine that trailer looking as good as it does without him. I hope it releases nationwide.

Also Superfreak, second generation indian 'immigrants' (or descendents of indian immigrants) would be Indian 'Americans'. But I'm sure that's what you meant nevertheless ;)

I'll proably check this movie out. I have a huge crush on Kal Penn anyway...:O

He's destined for greatness despite Superman Returns. He had like one line in that movie.

I read the book for my writing class last year and the book is pretty much rated R book since the author had a detailed love scene between Penn's character and other girl.

I loved the book and am definitely watching this. Although reading the book I never pictured Kal Penn as Gogol :p
