If you don't want to know what her new job is....DON'T READ FURTHER! ;)

This pic is from Melissa's movie coming out next year called "Sun Dogs" I thought it was kind of "reporterish" OR "stalkerish" whichever you prefer...lol

Looks like we have a nice little spoiler in the fact that Kara's new job is as a Reporter for the Tribune. One of the things I love about this series is the "human" side of Kara and though it was fun, lots of fun to see the dynamics of the "ups and downs" in the "Cat/Kara" relationship, I'm really looking forward to see where this new job can take her. I think we will see her out of the office more as Kara, and being put into all kinds of situations. NOW, is there always a chance that Berlanti and Company could totally do a 180 and take her new job in a totally different direction than what we have seen in some test dialogue? SURE, wouldn't be the first time....ala so much has changed from the pilot. But my hope is that she stays as a reporter and we get all kinds of fun from that....

What are some things you would like to see the "human" side of Kara do....?

Kara's following in the footsteps of her cousin??!!

Didn't we know this?

This show is very much the Superman I'd like to see, just with Supergirl instead.

No the only time it has actually been said was in some test dialogue......

Out of all the jobs they could've given her, they decided on reporter? Really?

What other jobs would you have preferred?

Being a reporter is being independent and on your own for the most part. If they tried to make her a cop or fireman or the like....she would be fired within a week for running off to save people all the time. This way she doesn't have to be accountable to a higher up for an 8 straight hour time period.

What other jobs would you have preferred?

One that Supermsn doesn't have. It's not a bad idea per se; I would just prefer that the writers continue to give Kara her own identity.

In the context of Season 1 and where she works, what job would that be?

To me, being a reporter will get her out of the office, dealing with different people besides co-workers and family, and helps build that identity as Kara. I have the same job as my uncle, but that doesn't mean that we are the same.

She could've kept the same job.

She could've done all of that as an executive assistant. We've seen her out of the office, running errands for Grant. Even if your argument is that she could do more of that with a different job, that still doesn't mean that they should've made her a reporter.

I have the same job as my uncle, but that doesn't mean that we are the same.

There are a million reasons why that comparison/excuse doesn't work. Chief among them is the fact that you weren't specifically conceived as the female counterpart to your uncle.

I think. :oldrazz:

I think a reporter gives her many more story lines than the assistant job.

And, no....I am not a football coach like my uncle was..... ;)

BUT, my family has said we are a lot alike. lolSave</span>

I don't disagree. I'm not really mad that she's a reporter now; I just wish that they'd been a little bit more creative instead of ripping off Superman. What matters in the end is the execution and the role her new job plays in advancing thr story, but yeah...wouldn't have been my choice.

How did I miss this development? :wow:

Kara not at Catco is going to be strange and I wonder if part of it is that Calista will be doing less scenes now that production has moved to Toronto.

I agree with Kelly though, the reporter angle opens up a lot of interesting stuff for Kara to do, hopefully investigating like Lois does.

^ She's still working at CatCo; the National Tribune is a subsidiary of it, as revealed early in Season 1.

Not Toronto....Vancouver.

And this little tidbit was hidden in some test dialogue that was released. :)

Ah, I missed that, and yes Vancouver the place that doubles for everywhere. :D

Good, this means less annoying Cat, although I really wish they would have been more creative in Kara's profession so as to distinguish her more from Clark.

Hmmmmm. I have mixed feelings about this news. On the one hand, being a roving reporter allows Kara to more easily disappear to perform superheroics as Supergirl from time to time by excusing it as chasing a lead, receiving a tip-off from a source, etc. It also gives Kara a "cover" to investigate people or places related to her super identity (e.g. CADMUS).

But, I am a little disappointed that it's the same occupation as held by Clark Kent (although again, there are good reasons for him to also be a reporter) and by James Olsen (who as far as I could understand, moved from being the head of the art department to being an investigative reporter on and off during season 1). And it's not a job which I recall hearing Kara express any interest in doing during season 1, although I may be misremembering. I'll withhold any real judgment until I see how they support Kara's decision in season 2. As we're finally seeing Superman (and presumably Clark Kent), maybe he'll give her some career advice (or maybe she could even be inspired to be a reporter based on Clark telling her stories about all the wonderful things that Lois Lane has done).

I would think, becoming Cat's assistant would mean she was headed in the same direction as Cat. I don't think she ever planned on staying Cat's assistant forever she just took a different turn saving her sister in the plane incident and moving on to Supergirl....so to me, this is the next natural step when working for Cat and starting at the bottom. Next step? Junior Reporter.
