Xbox Killer Instinct

Sounds awesome. Why didn't I know about it? :csad:

Not sure...maybe if you weren't a teenager or young adult in the 90's maybe? This game was all the rage at the arcades. I think KI Gold was released around the launch of the Nintendo 64.

Anyways here is some cool footage from KI 1 and KI 2:

Sabrewulf Supreme Victory

Tusk KI 2 Ultra Combo

I never got into KI nor cared for it as a kid. I much preferred SF and MK at the time

I was a teenager for most of the 90s. Maybe it wasn't as big in the UK? I was totally into Street Fighter but guess I didn't go to arcades that much.

Thanks for the videos, can't watch here but will check on a different computer later.

Well, part of it was that it came along at a time when the genre was starting to slump, too. It was relatively popular, but the fighting genre was starting to be out of vogue around those times. It could slip you by if you weren't heavy into that stuff at the time.

Man, I forgot how awesome the sound was in this game.

so is this game going to be on a retail disc??

or is it just downloadable where you have to buy each character?

also, have they said if any new characters will be introduced?

I was probably just too Street Fighter/Mario focused until PS1 came out & not really a regular arcade goer. Looking forward to getting started on this now though. Is there much chance of the previous Killer Instinct being released on XBLA? Not sure how the rights would work for previous games.

Micosoft owns the KI trademark now, so they'd have to remove references to Nintendo in it, but I believe they have the right to re-release the first two.

Yeah, I'm guessing Ninty still has some claim to the publishing rights of the older games.

Some high-level play.

Tier seems to be, judging by the performances seen is Saberwulf > Glacius >>>>>>>> Jago.

Can't wait for B.Orchid's redesign.

Great looking game. To above posts, I hope they can sort something out as I really want to play the originals now before I get this.

Awesome art from the new KI

Thunder looks hard as ****. The anti Glacius. Can't wait to see how they reimagine B. Orchid.

Also, I wished they kept Thunder's Chants from KI

that pricing structure sounds terribly confusing........

and only 6 characters at launch.....with only 2 more added later on???

yeah........

I think it's great. Can give the game a try with a character you like without paying too much. You'll know if the game is for you soon enough and then can decide to call it quits without losing much or getting involved but still only buying the characters you really want to play as. Anyone who's played a beat'em up online knows that most people only use a very small number of characters for the majority of their playtime.

And it's not confusing really. Buy the characters you want for a fixed amount per character but there are deals if you want to buy a load of characters.

This way I'll get this at launch but otherwise no matter how good the game I'd have waited to finish all the other beat'em ups I need to get done..ie all Street Fighters, Tekkens, Soul Caliburs, Mortal Kombats, Marvel Vs Capcoms, Injustice etc.

8 characters, though? That's awfully low. Doesn't matter if certain characters are more popular online or not, SF shouldn't ship with just Ryu & Ken just because they're the most popular. Even if they are, you run into a decent range of characters from the entire roster, which is something you can say for all fighters to some degree. It's all about lacking variety and content. And $40 for just 8 characters seem kind of steep to me. It makes me think the budget on this one was very tight

Hopefully, if it becomes more popular, they will add more. But that's going to build up financially after a time.

Doesn't it say the 1st 8 characters as in there can still be more? I realise 2 of them are post launch anyway but I read it as more open ended than 8 characters full stop (but I can't see the source article).

And if you're talking about Killer Instinct veterans then I guess they would be pissed at so few characters but for the majority I don't think 8 is the end of the world for a 'new' beat'em up (like the original Street Fighter 2). I'm sure there will eventually be more characters that you have to pay for anyway like regular beat'em up DLC (on top of a $60 base), especially if people start buying up these packs or a fair number of individual characters. It's probably a fail safe in case the game isn't popular so they don't waste resources creating unnecessary content for which there's no demand while giving themselves the option to do so if things pick up. Quite a good business model compared to the $60 or bust & all in budget strategy.

Yeah, it does. I copy and pasted that directly from Xbox news, just forgot to do the link.

Eh, I don't consider myself a veteran of KI or anything, but 8 still seems pretty low to me by today's standards. For just $20 more, almost every fighter has at least four more (I say four, because at $5 a pop, that's what would bring the $39.99 package up). But if looked at as a new fighter, I guess there's a point. I can't think of a new fighting franchise to compare to. I dunno, $40 for just 8 fighters still seems kind of steep unless there's some meat elsewhere.

Lack of Orchid means I don't give a **** until she's available to play.

I don't know, I think the "but it only has 8 characters" is a pretty piss poor argument generated by Sony fanboys (as usual) to find something to gripe about and surround the game with negativity.

I mean lets be serious, the game is only 20$, not 60$. 20$! THATS IT!

Maybe if the game was full retail price the argument might be sound, but it's only 20$. lol

8 Characters for only twenty bucks for a launch next gen fighter sounds like a very sweet deal to me.

Also, I remember when the original Street Fighter launched, they only had 12 characters, so..

As far as the 40$ version, its not obligatory to buy that version, that's if you want extra outfits and the full version of the original game.

Anyway, all of that aside, its all waay better than Sony's launch Next Gen Fighter, oh wait, Sony doesn't have a launch Next Gen Fighter. Sucks to be you!

Oh, and P.S. Yes I'm buying this, and I'm getting the 40$ version ;P
