Xbox Killer Instinct

hmm.........I guess I misread that, too. lol

again.....confusing tiered pricing structure.

still........$40 for only 8 characters.........it's not bad.......but it still seems rather weak compared to other games. and, again, given the next-gen technology, you'd expect more.

but wait.........there is no story mode?? at all??

if that's the case.........that's a dealbreaker for me right there.

LOL There's nothing confusing about it, unless you suffer from a very low IQ, like most Sony fanboys do anyway.
Since you seem to lack the intelligence to grasp the concept, I'll spell it out for you, real nice and slooooowww

20$ for the game and all characters.

40$ for the game and all characters, + additional costumes and the full version of the original game.

See? Simple, now that wasn't too hard was it numb nuts?

Not much different than the different pricing tiers we've seen this past gen with games that have tiers upwards into 150$+.
Only this one is just 20 and 40.

Either way, its a Next Gen Fighter, and @ Launch, and for only 20 bucks.

And of course I will take that any day of the week over the giant goose egg and empty bag of nothing that Sony has at launch in that category :D

Anyway, 20$ for a new Next Gen launch game is dirt cheap in my book.
Count me in!

I'm glad you posted that. Means you probably will get banned sooner rather than later so we don't have to suffer through your stupidity much longer.

wait.......was I just called a numb nut and accused of having a low IQ??!!

I guess there's a 1st time for everything.......lol

Ken Lobb confirmed Story Mode and more characters are on the way since fans have asked them for it.

So confirmed for Season 2:

Story mode w/multiple endings
8 more characters bringing roster to 16

Rumored to be in Season 2:

Stage Finishers
Ultimate Combos
No Mercy Fatalities

again.......piecemeal approach.

it's good that there will be more content. but, if this is how they're going to do it, I'd rather wait until they release a more "complete" game that includes all that stuff at one price.

Damn, these characters look bloody cool!

What kind of character is B Orchid?

KI2

If you're asking about what was her relevance to the story, She was pretty much the main character, next to Jago, a brother she didn't know she had.

I think they are going for this approach mainly due to them not really having faith in fighting games, sure they are back on the rise, but compared to shooters, it's not worth putting a lot of effort into it. They are clearly gonna wait to see how well it's received.

I'm not sure I agree, but hopefully KI will be a hit and show them that it was worth investing in.

I'm sure there are a lot of KI fans out there, like myself, who have been waiting a long time for a new game.

but, as I said, given the approach they're taking with this, I'm now less interested in buying this right away. I'm going to wait. and that's assuming I even buy the X1.

Well if you look at all the hits Microsoft has had, a good deal of them are shooter related. Look at most of the games they push now. Again Shooter related, the last time Microsoft invested in a fighting game (TAO FENG) it went VERY poorly with them. I can see why they would want to play it safe here (from their POV) Believe me, if Microsoft had faith in Killer Instinct this would have had a bigger budget and would have been a full retail release and would have put a developer with a better track record on the job, that's not to say Double Helix, isn't doing a fantastic job so far, but in the beginning, very few people had faith in them turning out a quality fighting game.

8 is lame by comparison no matter how you slice it

For a game that was developed in just a year? Not many gamers get really good with all 8 characters. I'd say maybe 3 core characters at best. Regardless, it is VERY low compared to to other titles that took probably up to three years to make. Consider at least Street Fighter IV, which took years and years to develop; that had a championship edition, arcade edition, and now an ultra edition (which only has 4 new characters) is kind of a rip off. They released the same game 4 times and people still bought it.

At least this game launches with KI 1 Arcade and the promise for more content of a story mode coming out during the end of Season 1 (all free if you get the Ultra edition), it's not that bad that people are making it out to be.

Besides, if you're not sure about the game, you can still play with one character free, online.

Without a doubt the multiple Street Fighter IV releases have been an absolute god damn ripoff. Japanese arcade fighters have been suffering from the same stagnation and absolute bullcrap in providing content and Capcom is ground zero of what is wrong.

I'm interested in Orchid's and Fulgore's redesigns.

yes it is. It was MS's decision to have this thing developed in a year. If thats the excuse used to justify just 8 characters than wait till you can release a complete game and not just in parts as development progresses

You're preaching to the choir about Capcom. Their business practices is a main reason why I dont purchase their games anymore. DmC was the first game since UMvC3 in 2011 that I touched

Fulgore already had a badass character design back then, wonder how they can top that. Orchid is interesting. Will they keep her overly sexualised or will they tone it down, giving her the Lara Croft treatment..:hmm

Only $20 for this. That's a pretty great deal. I can't wait it'll be one of my first purchases in Nov.

actually, I hope they do tone down her hyper-sexiness ( if that's a word.....lol ).

I feel when female characters are overly sexualized, it actually takes away from the character.

it certainly got people's attention back when the 1st KI came out. I mean, one of her finishing moves was unzipping her top and exposing herself.

sure, that caught the attention of teenage boys, but do we really need to see something like that again? no.

Yes.

God yes

I just think they haven't presented this game right. I mean I'd rather have 8 balanced characters than a game with all the bells and whistles, but plays horribly.

And at least, unlike Capcom, for $20 you can play the entire game. And if you don't like to pay $20, you can pay $5 and play the entire game with the character of your choice.

Recently DH said in a twitch stream that they wouldn't be opposed to allowing KI fans to even test out a character before you buy.

I think they realize they don't have a finished product on their hands, but at least this way, you pay in, and you're guaranteed for more content down the line for free.

I just think its really lame to release an incomplete game like this. They really want to push this so they can say they have it as a launch title but this isnt the best way to handle it. IMO, it shouldnt be released until its finished early next spring. As it stands, it looks like its going to be like an extended demo as it will be the definition of barebones. Even then, it will still be lacking in terms of characters and features and they dont expect to add that until later next year. I really hope this isnt a business model that others adopt.

Than don't buy it.
I think its really lame for Sony fanboys to whine to everyone and cry all over the internet about how lame MS is being for supplementing a next gen launch title for only 20$, just because it only has 8 characters.
LOL The game is only 20$ !!! LOL

I personally think its *AWESOME* of MS to release a next gen fighter at the Xbox One launch.
Again, that is much better than what the competition has. PS4 adopters can go spend thier money on a console now if they want, but only for it to act as a current paperweight, suffering through a long launch drought, just to play games at some unknown time in the far away future, several years down the road, while many of their titles get cxled like The Last Guardian anyway.

PS3 didn't get competent and legit until sometime in 2009, 3 years after thier launch. Go spend money on a box for it to collect dust if you want,
but whining about the competition is just plain pathetic.

So what since the KI dev obviously didn't have time to finish more characters, designs and moves and stages, welcome to the digital age, of having the ability to release the rest of the package down the road.

Scaling back to be able to release at launch for a very reduced price is sound to me.
For only 20$ that will be an awesome launch title purchase.

More content will come in the following year, you can always hold out for the inevitable 60$ full retail release if you want, of course if you do, don't play me, or any other gamer who picks up the title at launch, because *we will have had a whole year to master and perfect the moves of the original 8 characters! You will get you butt handed to you on a platter* ;)

See you online suckas

Oh I wont, but you realize this is a discussion forum right? The point is to discuss which is what I was doing with Midnyte, and we were having one which didnt involve hurling insults, baiting and being condescending. You should probably consider trying one of those as your point tends to get across better and get taken more seriously.

Features like a Story mode and all 8 characters will be around February or March according to Ken Lobb. For $20 bucks, that's not a bad investment. I pay about the same for parking in any major downtown, like LA, Chicago, or San Francisco.

As for the game not being totally finished...it is kinda lame I agree...I felt the same way. In fact, I'm calling this game Killer Instinct 2.5. After watching some of the newer builds (Twitch's KI Fridays, and Gamescom footage), this game is just too bad ass to pass up. I love the music, the look, and everyone who I know who has played it, says it is definitely KI. The original KI developers, Ken Lobb, Bean, Sutherland, and what's left of Rare are all for this game.

Another thing that I'm actually really excited about is the original Killer Instinct Arcade game finally being released for home console. I've been waiting to get my KI fix since 1996. We've never had an honest port of KI into any home console, and this game is going to give us the original (FINALLY!), and give us a new game to play with.

Considering a $5 version lets you play the whole game with the character of your choice, and by March you can play a solo campaign mode...that's not bad.

It's a new way to play games, and I think you might see more of this from other games in the future. There's no doubt double dippers like Capcom, and popular fighting game franchises like Mortal Kombat will be watching very closely at this pricing model for their own future games on the new consoles.

Its definetly a trend. Namco just released a F2P Tekken and Tecmo is doing the same with Dead or Alive 5 this fall. Personally, Im not a fan of this. I prefer the complete fighter experience and dont like the idea of it dished out in microtransactions
