KOTOR MMO Reveal Coming This Month

I can't tell if I like it or not.... the lightsabers look *huge* and bulky. And the art looks also looks to be different. Man this better live up to 3 or they've lost almost all their fans, including me.:(

Sounds massive. I hope that they go all out and implement mounts and vehicles too.

I saw one picture with the gigantic lightsaber that you must be talking about. It had to have been sized wrong because the other pics of the lightsabers aren't nearly as bad.

Have they revealed what classes and races that will be playable?

1) Bout time.

2) They haven't revealed any classes other than Jedi and Sith and that there will be other classes. Considering all the time they spent in awe of the idea of a Han and Leia and Luke adventuring together, expect a pilot/rogue class and some kind of diplomat/politician/non-combatish class.

3) You know what I like about it? Animations that match up so that Lightsabers are lethal instead of 10 damage. If Lightsabers need to be blocked, this game will be the truth, imho.

4) The only thing they need to do to get me to subscribe, other than keep up their Bioware level quality, is to have reasonable non-combat advancement. I'm talking about all the way back to AO level autonomy. If I don't want to weild a blaster or lightsaber regularly, I should still be able to get around and get by. Not just a merchant, but there has to be some kind of skills to apply to NPCs other than killing them that will get me XP.

I've got a bad feeling about this.

Seriously though, why couldn't they at least complete the KOTOR trilogy, tie up all the loose ends, and then jump ahead 300 years (game time) and do their MMO?

I have to agree there.

I want Revan :csad:

Hmm.. I really wanted a part tres. Give me the closure I was looking for after KOTOR II. I'm not feeling the different flavor of art from the screens I saw on IGN. But still, knowing Bioware, everything well be on point.

I have faith in Bioware's capibilitys.

I'm sure it will be a very good game. Bioware is not in the business of making bad games. Never-the-less, its not the game I want, nor is it one that will interest me in the least.

The Old Republic is gunning for WOW

EA and LucasArts executives have told videogaming247 that they are targeting World of Warcraft-sized success with Star Wars: The Old Republic.
The BioWare-developed MMO was announced this week and you can find everything there is to know about it (not much, unfortunately) here on Eurogamer. LucasArts is publishing the game, but EA, as owner of BioWare, is also involved.

"We have very high expectations for this," EA Games president Frank Gibeau told vg247. "Just look at the base of Star Wars fans, plus what BioWare can do. Trust me: we want to win. EA's reputation is for wanting to win.

"This is going to be a powerful category and there's lots of ways to compete in this category," Gibeau continued. "[Blizzard] created a much larger opportunity for everybody else, but that doesn't mean it's going to stay that way."

LucasArts' online chief Tom Nichols chimed in, betting that The Old Republic's emphasis on story would bring record numbers of players to massively multiplayer gaming.

"Our goal is to show that by bringing storytelling to the genre that we can attract an even wider audience. Plus, we have the benefit of this huge brand, which has done very, very well for nearly 30 years."
Asked specifically if the game would be bigger than WOW, Nichols said: "I think this game has that potential."

The executives are the first in the MMO industry to be bold enough to predict that they can take on and best Blizzard's record number of subscriptions.

Star Wars: The Old Republic has no release date as yet, and has only been confirmed for PC, although Gibeau suggested that a console version was "under consideration".

"Star Wars: The Old Republic developers BioWare Austin seem to be well aware of just how out of proportion those in-game lightsabers are, going by the Jedi costumes at the developers Halloween bash. This midichlorian-packed match up should look familiar to those of us following the LucasArts-BioWare MMO, if a bit exaggerated. We're pretty sure dude on the left is supposed to be a Sith, by the way, and not FBI special agent Johnny Utah from Point Break.

Cheers to our anonymous BioWare sources. Jeers to every other game developer who didn't submit a Halloween Hangover costume report."

If they can get the Star Wars universe right (something SWG has failed to do), then I think they can challenge WOW. It won't defeat WOW, but it will be able to get enough people who are Star Wars fans curious enough to switch to this game.

It doesn't really remind me of KOTOR at all, but at least it's looking better.
