Comics Kraven's Last Hunt

I disagree. Spidey being shocked that Kraven would use a rifle is silly. He wasn't surprised over the other crazy weapons etc. that any of his villains came up with. Kraven, by nature a big game hunter, using a rifle shouldn't draw anymore shock. But moreover, at the point of KLH Spidey was a superhero with extensive experience. He's fought street crooks, superbeings, aliens.. He wouldn't have made the rookie error of allowing himself to be frozen by surprise. At that point in his career, with all of his experience dodging multiple assailants with automatic weapons, its all instinct and reflex. I have no problem with Kraven defeating Spidey to further the story. But for me to care about Spidey as a hero, I need to believe in him. That he's giving his all. I need to see him make a fight of it. And I need to see Kraven up his game to be able to overcome Spidey. This story is a pre-cursor for what's followed and brought us up to this point. Lazy writers who have Spidey beaten not because the villains come back harder and stronger- but simply "because". And just because we're examining Kraven in the arc, Spidey shouldn't be given the short end of the stick.

This always bothered me about that story as well. Is that all an adversary has to do to beat Spider-man-- get the drop on him on a rainy night and hit him with a drugged dart? Good point with this being a more seasoned Spider-man who should have been more alert and in tune with his spider-sense to keep from getting hit. JMD definitely could have thought-up a more ingenius way for Kraven to finally take down Spidey. It made Kraven look like a fool too- "All this time, I've been obsessing about how I can beat you Spider-man, and it turns out that all I had to do was wait until a dark, rainy night to tag you with a drugged dart! Whodathunk?"

This story was immediately followed-up by the Ann Nocenti Mad Dog Ward story-- another really dark one that features Spidey getting shot by a dude with a gun... ugh.

Granted-- there are things I like about both stories, but sheesh... I'm shocked Spidey has managed to survive as long as he has considering how many times he's had to go up against opponents armed with firearms...

Great Arc. I'm a happy owner of the original prints. Fantastic friggin event.

Hell Spids had a mental breakdown because of ...well...i don't want to ruin it for whoever hasn't read it.

Having mental breakdown? I thought Peter is ok after the end of Kraven's Last Hunt. And there's sequel?

I should have mentioned this before...

The BEST Kraven story, and one of my ALL TIME favorite Spidey reads was in a novel call the Untold Tales of Spider-Man. The short story is called "The Stalking of John Doe" by Adam-Troy Castro.:up::up::up::up:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0785102639/ref=sib_dp_pt/002-4594050-7604026#reader-link

It was RIVETING! Has to be one of the best Spider-man stories ever told! (As is every Spider-Man story written by Castro.) There was no art, but it didn't matter... if you enjoyed Kraven's Last Hunt, do yourself a favor and read The Stalking of John Doe. That story alone was worth the price of the book (which I found at the Half Price Bookstore), and the others stories are good as well.

Wow, I have thought about getting the hardcover as well. After reading this thread, I definitly am now. Glad you guys recommend it.:xmen:

I just got this hardcover yesterday. I have yet to read it, but it looks great. I can't wait until I get some time for this.

Actually, is it possible for Spidey to survive 2 weeks buried with no food or water (or maybe air)?

Probably not, but you know the ol' argument... Comic.... suspend belief and what not... But I finally got around to reading it, and I have to say it was pretty darn good. Kraven was really creepy in this, I'll agree that it's definately one of the better Spider-Man stories I've read.

Is this story really that good? I have heard a lot of praises of it and I read the summary. Spidey doesn't seem to have many appearances in it and it's more about Kraven's story. Not really a fan of Kraven anyway.

Yesterday, I happen to see few collected edition of Kraven's Last Hunt. Should I get it?
I did, and I didn't regret it. It wasn't all its cracked up to be, IMO, but it was definitely worth reading. A great way to kill off a classic villain also.

Extremely good issue.
Unfortunate that they killed him off in his prime, though.

I got the hardback for Christmas. I really enjoyed it, it was a great read. Dark and well written. Sometimes I got annoyed by some of the psychological stuff, but not enough to really care.

It sort of felt like a batman story a little more than a spider man one, which interestingly enough I think originally started out as a batman story. You can really tell.

I love KLH but I wouldn't say its the best. Powerful wriitng and it is something different. Its all about a man's honour and his quest to achieve his greatest goal, being the best. Once Sergei achieves this, what more is there to do. He "Killed" his greatest enemy, did his heroics thing and a better job at it he did according to him, so what else is there to do? Kill himself. Brilliant story.

Dragon, I just wanted to say...

Right on.

Goes back to reading the early Stan Lee issues where Kraven was a badass, as opposed to emo psychopath
