Just wondering if Kryptonian and human ancestry has been explored in the comics?

Kryptonians look identical to humans, do they even have the same anatomy as us?

Are Kryptonians merely humans who have evolved much further and suggest what humanity may eventually become? Krypton and its civilisation were ancient so it could be possible .

Pretty sure their anatomy is different from ours, hence our yellow sun giving Superman his power and yet has no affect on humans.

 

[The Question]

Well, one early idea for Superman was that he not be an alien, but sent back in time from humanity's distant future when the planet destroys itself. Not sure why they scrapped that idea way back when.
