Kurt Russell is Santa Claus in Netflix’s The Christmas Chronicles

Checking it up on IMdB, it sounds awesome (and with Cesar Romero!).

Jeez, half of you people need a little more joy in your lives.

It's a friggin' kids' Christmas movie, you can accept a little cheese here. It is what it is. These criticisms would be like complaining about Hugh ****ing Grant showing up in some dorky British rom-com or whatever.

"Lame" is sort of the intention. It's just lame in a good way.

So, in theory you are saying Hugh Grant is linked to dorky brit movies (which he generally is) so we shouldn't complain and therefore Kurt Russell does cheesy tv movies so we shouldn't complain...

It's the opposite.. this is exactly the Film an ageing Hugh Grant would take...

Going (even more than I did in last post) off topic here, but I've always wanted to see Grant in a good serious drama role. Maybe he
's done some such stuff and I just don't remember.

So what? People are literally complaining about cheese in a kid's Christmas movie here.

It's basically 2018 Tim Allen Santa Clause. Cheese is the intention. That's not a bad thing, it's what it's going for.

This is in no way comparable to Tim Allen's santa. Cheese and camp in a christmas movie is expected... look at jingle all the way.....perfect example.

This, however... i don't know what you want me to say besides i think it's off - santa doing uncharacteristic things, acting a certain way... it looks tacky, not cheesy. Spiderman 3 jazz scene springs to mind. Sure, the script, it may have read well and made sense - a bit of cheese around a girl is fine, but what we saw..tacky.

Anyways, it's out soon so i hope you enjoy it and happy holidays.

I think the word everyone is looking for is...cheap. It looks Cheap.

Kid's movie.

Yeaahhhh. It ain't exactly Ridley Scott here.

Kids movies can be appealing to adults as well. There are many worthy family films that are great films and put in the effort. Ridley Scott level effort.

second trailer was better... just

I just watch it. I don't particularly like family movies or movies with kids for that matter but I was entertained.
It was a nice feel-good movie, K.Russel was fun and it looks like he had a good time, the little girl was not annoying and the boy teen wasn't a brat either.
It was very pleasant to watch.

Watched it last night, it's not a new Christmas classic or anything but I enjoyed it, some of the ideas were a miss but the overall concept was good and I thought some of the ideas, in particular the design and use of the sleigh, really worked, and the film had some great visual moments.

On the acting front Kurt Russell's Santa was great, he was mostly traditional but with just a bit of that classic Kurt humour to stand out, and I loved the Mrs. Claus cameo. :D The kids were also both pretty good. It's simple fun with a traditional Christmas message, one to add to the rotation in the festive season.

I saw it Christmas day and the biggest problem was the script and the casting for the older child. It was super cliched but whenever Kurt was used well it was really fun and entertaining. Problem is the kid's story is very lifeless and by the numbers. When it's about Santa it's cinematic but when the focus goes back to the kids it goes into flat TV movie territory. The SFX were pretty good actually and Russell sold it as a Santa chaffing against his pop culture image.

The possibility of seeing Kurt as this version of Santa again is my one reason to want to see a follow up if the script was tighter and the supporting cast were of a higher caliber.

Sometimes an actor makes a movie that he can show his grandkids. This is one of those.

It did huge numbers for Netflix so there's a good chance of a sequel if Kurt is up for it.

He should just show 'em The Thing and be done with it.
You don't have kids or don't understand having kids. Some movies are not appropriate for children,,,,,and The Thing is one of those.

Perhaps I should have added a :o or a :funny: afterwards. Twas jesting, but you are correct I don't have children but also appreciate showing The Thing would be wholly incorrect.

...

...

... I saw THE THING on VHS when I was 8.

A sequel based in a scandinavian country would be great... perhaps in the build up to christmas.

Krampus has honed in on one family - feeding off their fear and lurking in the shadows - a little girl who believes writes a letter to santa for help - he arrives, rescues the family then goes back and sends the krampus away... but... krampus has left his minions in homes across norway, ready to hatch on xmas eve at midnight... so santa has to get them all before it's too late.

Really playing up the 80's xmas movie vibe..... gremlins, die hard etc lol

The first one sucked other than Kurt Russell. This looks slightly better. Chris Columbus is now director so hopefully he can bring some of that Home Alone/Harry Potter magic.
