LA/OC people,

INDIE 103.1 is no long on the airwaves, and will be an online station from this point on. All of the info is here:

MY TAKE:

I'm sadden by this. It's not because music is dead because it's not. Far from it. It's the fact that the station was trying to give the public a taste of lesser known bands out there.

But I knew something was up after the huge shift in the schedule. They dropped Danny Matherson's show, moved Henry Rollins to Saturday nights, and canceled the speciality shows.

According to Ted Roman's twitter (https://twitter.com/TeddRoman), the on-air talent have been given the pink slip. That includes Steve Jones (of the Sex Pistols) show, Joney's Jukebox. I just hope that he'll find a new home (maybe KCRW).

Here's the info on the future of Jones' show. http://blogs.laweekly.com/play/news/steve-jones-releases-statement/

Is it because they didn't want to corporate (which they were actually)? Bad ratings? I don't know.

LA radio is pretty dead now, besides NPR

it's weird because LA is such a music town. then again, we don't have a football team either..

reminds me of when Y100 here in philly was replaced by some rap station (name doesn't matter, they're all the same ****).

it was a shame too. Y100 actually did things for the community while at the same time giving alt rock a home in Philly. Now all we have in WMMR, which while good, limits themselves to rock up to Pearl Jam. Don't think I've heard anything newer than that.

are you ****ing serious? I had honestly just started listening to the station not too long ago and loved it.

Indie 103.1 is online now now, but what's the point?

There's better sites and blog out there for good music and upcoming bands. The hook that Indie 103.1 had was the fact that was a radio station, accessible to anyone. Now that's gone. I've heard that the FCC has a new ratings system that is so rigid that you don't have much of a choice BUT to go commercial.

Now the problem is that they lost all of their talent, including my fav Steve Jones. I really hope that he gets with KCRW or something, which kinda has a hipster following.
