The Hollywood Reporter brings word that The Walking Dead star Lauren Cohan has joined the upcoming action film Mile 22. She joins Mark Walhberg, John Malkovich, MMA star Ronda Rousey and Asian action star Iko Uwais (The Raid) in the film, which is directed by Peter Berg.
Mile 22 marks the fourth collaboration between Berg and Wahlberg in recent years starting with 2013’s Lone Survivor and carrying on to Deepwater Horizon and Patriot’s Day.

Graham Roland (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Fringe, Lost) and Lea Carpenter penned the script, which THR reports will “tell the story of an elite American intelligence officer who, when aided by a top-secret tactical command unit, tries to smuggle a mysterious police officer with sensitive information out of the country.”

STX Entertainment is reportedly hoping to turn the film into a franchise and are simultaneously developing a TV series and VR game to correspond with it. Earlier this year, Wahlberg revealed that he hopes for the film to spawn a trilogy and described it as “an intelligent, adult action film.”

Cohan can be seen now in the new season of The Walking Dead as Maggie, a role she has held since 2011.
Quite like the sound of this, Berg's a decent director and the cast is cool.

I'm honestly tired of these Walhberg Berg collabs. We'll see how it turns out though.

Red band trailer is up on Youtube, it looks like a fairly standard action flick to me.

Yeah looked very run in the mill.
I really like when Wahlberg and Berg team up but this just looks bleh. Looks like anyone could've directed it.

Still could be a fun rental

Ugh. Berg, stop collaborating with Marky Mark. You know that there are other actors out there right? Some of the ones who didn’t see Patriots Day will probably still want to work with you! Shame that Iko will probably be wasted in this.

I like the team but it just looks so generic. If I hear it's good I'll check it out. But nothing indicated that it's worth paying extra to see

They've been promoting the crap out of it

I don’t know if some Freaky Friday **** happened to Peter Berg because “Mile 22” embodies all of the trappings of a Bay film, but somehow maintains Berg’s style. Oh crap. This is Peter Berg unleashed. The opening sequence lets you know right away that this is very much a Peter Berg film. It features all of the requirements: Violence, gore, guns, patriotic themes, people whose occupation involves some sort of national security, Marky Mark, and John Malkovich. Seriously, if you thought “Patriot’s Day” was Berg’s political stance, “Mile 22” continues that conversation as he channels his inner Michael Bay, and it is not good.

Saw it tonight and man, this movie was on ADD. Seriously. It did not know what it wanted to be. Peter Berg had a good streak with his last three movies, but this one is his first miss since Battleship. I thought Iko Uwais was the only one who was good in it. Also, after this movie, I feel like Lauren Cohan could hold her own as an action star.

In the original version of the script,
Lauren Cohans character was the lead.
When Mark Wahlberg came in, that all changed.

Maybe this can be a launching pad for Lauren Cohan to be in a film by a better director, like Katherine Bigelow.

I quite enjoyed Battleship. :)

That was always going to be the case. Mark is more recognised (by the industry) than Lauren is, even though I don't particularly rate Wahlberg much.

Wahlberg is fun in comedies. That is pretty much where I think he really shines as of late. As far as his action movies, he's not box office poison per se but nobody is like rushing to see one for him.

Too true.

I can't watch this without crying tears of laughter.

In order to get funding from some dip**** producer, you need to attach a name he (usually a he) recognizes, whether or not that name is actually a proven draw or not.

I'll give you that; I've seen him in a couple of comedy films that I've enjoyed (though not particularly because of his involvement) but his action films? Nah!

Pain & Gain, Ted & Daddy's Home to name a few, but yeah, I didn't enjoy those films because of Mark in particular.

Edit: Oh, and The Happening, not that it's exactly an Action or Comedy film.

The Happening was a comedy, it just wasn’t INTENDED to be.
That ending was pure foolishness.

Maybe these reviews will convince Berg that he needs to branch out and start working with other lead actors.
