Let’s Talk Influences

Whether it's the Court or not (it could definitely be amazing and you raise some great points), I think it's safe to say there's almost definitely a twist because, like you said, audiences already know it's Riddler behind the murders. Even if Bruce doesn't and he has to figure it out, you need stuff for the audience to discover along the way too. There is definitely something else to it that we won't know until it's out.

The mystery isn’t who’s committing murders. It’s WHY is he doing this? And that mystery is tied to the corruption and past of Gotham City and why Batman is being let in on this secret.

So that’s a perfect concept for the Court of Owls. It may not be the case. But if there was ever a perfect setup for the Court to be introduced? This would be it. It writes itself. And at a time when people want fresh villains, and filmmakers are eager to reinvent the characters...why not now? It gives you a different option for a sequel beyond a Joker return, which has been done 12 years ago.

Good point. I guess it's obvious for us because we know the story lines that Reeves is inspired by, but the "why" would definitely be a new and fresh take for general audiences, even if the Court isn't involved (but like you said, it writes itself). It would be so perfect for a creepier horror vibe, and I'm sure Reeves could pull it off without the fantastical elements of the Talons too.

If the Waynes were corrupt (and somehow used by the Court) it also builds off the idea of Thomas Wayne in particular being a bit of a dirtbag in Joker that everyone seemed to love too, so it makes sense financially (I know they aren't connected literally, but they can still be connected thematically).

I would be ok with the Talon's being immortal zombies like the comics. I kinda hope this universe is more heightened, as that would make it distinct from the Nolan films and would allow new villains like Freeze, Clayface, and Manbat to appear in sequels.

Also, I don't know if I want Thomas Wayne to be a dirtbag. It worked well for the story Joker was telling, but I like Thomas Wayne as a good guy. I love the way Begins portrayed him. He was such a warm and caring presence and you really felt that gut punch when he was killed. But, if him being corrupt leads to story possibilities, so be it I suppose.

I'd love for it to be a bit heightened, I just don't think something like that will happen, at least right away, because of the Fandome discussion about grounding it (although that could be purely character-wise and not literally) and the look of the film so far, but I could be wrong.

I like both ways to do Thomas Wayne, but since TDK trilogy got him so right I'm definitely down for Reeves to go the complete opposite way for a) something new (for a proper Batman movie) and b) because it works so well thematically with the whole Gotham corruption angle he's going for. Also because the movie seems to be skipping over the origin story and less time will be given to the backstory of the Waynes on-screen (us not really seeing them would work with Bruce not *truly* knowing who his parents were imo). Anyways, I'm equally down with either way as long as it's done well.

TDK trilogy treated the Wayne’s like one dimensional saints. And Joker made them out to be monsters. There needs to be a middle ground. They could have been great loving parents who were also tied to corruption. Even if they weren’t evil, maybe they turned a blind eye. You don’t get that rich by being a saint. Shady **** has to happen at some point.

Immortal zombies ain’t happening in this universe. The Batfleck universe is perfect for Freeze, Man Bat, Killer Croc and Clayface. I hope Reeves’ world offers something different.

Nolan’s was heightened. You’re talking straight up fantasy.

I like Bruce Wayne's parents to be somewhat mysterious.

Their absence should leave a void that makes us empathize with Bruce's isolation.

I'm seeing a lot Lee Bermejo and Dave McKean influence, with the latter especially apparent to me in the more shadowy scenes, and Batman himself almost seeming a little.....spooky?

Yeah me neither, but thinking more about it, I can see a little something...
Not so much in the graphism but the ambiance. McKean seems to often use ocher hues and other rough textures in his work.

There's this typical 90' dirty atmosphere that can be found in Fincher's first few films or in a bunch of alternative rock band music videos from that era.

Something pretty much alive, to me, in the Batman first trailer and especially in the Batmobile first look photoshoot.

... I guess. I know I can see it, and I also get a 90' feel from a lot of the worldbuilding they're making, like the Drop signs and graffiti on the streets etc.

But yeah, all in all and after all of that, McKean in particular wouldn't be the bat artist that I would cite immediately there... :D

I think it's mainly in the grittiness. But at the same time that's just me projecting my own hopes for a creepier atmosphere in this universe

.......Like he doesn't really remember them spicysprite. Like even his most recent memories of them before their passing are starting to become muddled.

Man I hope so. By far, Pattinson has the best eyes since Keaton, he looks a little crazy in the cowl and I've always felt that's important. Batman should make everybody uncomfortable, not just criminals.
