No, the lesson here is, if you feel fine refuse to be treated in the ambulance. That way you're just coming along for the ride to the hospital. They can't charge you for that. The ambulance ride is the bulk of the bill, although I'm not exactly certain what $700 was for.
That's an idiotic lesson. People with concussions sometimes feel fine and they don't know they're not fine until days later. Kid almost drowned, seemed like a fairly reasonable thing to get him checked out to be sure.
