She shot to fame when she co-starred in the 1982 Steven Spielberg film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. At the age of 7, on November 20, 1982, Barrymore became the youngest-ever guest host of Saturday Night Live. She performed in a skit where she revealed that she killed E.T. She also received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 1984 for her role in Irreconcilable Differences.

In the wake of this sudden stardom, she endured a notoriously troubled childhood, smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol by the time she was 9, smoking marijuana at 10, and snorting cocaine at 12. Barrymore later described this period of her life in her 1990 autobiography, Little Girl Lost.

Though overcoming her substance abuse problems by the time she entered adulthood, she maintained her "bad girl" image, and leveraged her new-found role as a sex symbol to stage a career comeback playing a teenage seductress in Poison Ivy, and posing nude for the January 1995 issue of Playboy.

Steven Spielberg gave her a quilt for her 20th birthday with a note that read "Cover yourself up." Enclosed was a copy of her Playboy appearance, with the pictures altered by his art department so that she appeared fully clothed. At that time she had also appeared nude in her last five movies. During a 1995 appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, Barrymore shocked the normally unflappable host by climbing onto his desk and flashing him (but with her back to the camera) for his birthday. She also modeled in a series of Guess? jeans ads during this time.

Personal life

Barrymore had her first kiss with Breckin Meyer who went to her elementary school according to an extra on the DVD 50 First Dates. She was married to Welsh bartender turned bar owner, Jeremy Thomas, from March 20 to April 28, 1994, and to comedian Tom Green from July 7, 2001 to October 15, 2002 (Green filed for divorce in December 2001). Until January 2007, Barrymore lived with drummer Fabrizio Moretti of The Strokes, with whom she had been since April 2002. She has publicly stated that she is eager to start a family soon. She is also the Godmother to rock stars Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain's child, Frances Bean Cobain.

Yeah, I don't disagree. She's a horrible succubus, too. If she was really sucking all the youth and beauty out of all these young starlets you'd think she'd find a way to use that vitality to make herself more youthful and beautiful. It just hasn't happened, though.

It may be her unrequited infatuation with James Franco that finally sent her over the edge and into drug and alcohol rehab at the Wonderland Center in L.A. Wednesday, sources tell us.

The handsome “Spider-Man” star rebuffed her at Prince’s Golden Globes after-party at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel Monday night, reducing Lohan to tears, a fellow guest tells us.

“She came with her manager, Jason Weinberg, and a girlfriend, but she was mostly solo for the whole night,” says our source. “Most people were in a good mood — except for her. She seemed lost. She was trying to get James’ attention, and he wouldn’t give her anything. She was smoking a lot, not drinking in front of him, and then she went into a bedroom. From there, she went back to trying to get James’ attention again, and he was ignoring her. She ran out crying, with the girlfriend following her.”

This was about 3:30 a.m.; Lohan was reportedly found passed out in a hotel hallway about 6 a.m. Lohan first met the chiseled-with-chops Franco (above) here in June at the premiere party for “A Prairie Home Companion” at the Hudson Hotel. “She was really taken with him,” says another source. “She and her friends were going on to Bungalow 8, and he went along.”

Just for fun, the two filmed a trailer together that was used in the film “Holiday.” People mag reported that they hit karaoke night at Guy’s in L.A. in October and two nights later danced together at Area in West Hollywood.

But last year, the 20-year-old “Bobby” star was linked with Harry Morton, Joaquin Phoenix, Sean Lennon, Jared Leto, Wilmer Valderrama, Brett Ratner, Johnny Knoxville and Diana Ross’ son, Evan, among others.

Franco, 28, who dated rocker and actress Marla Sokoloff for years and tends to be monogamous, got interested in somebody else “and is very happy in his relationship with his girlfriend,” another source tells us.

Franco even refused a pricey watch Lohan tried to give him. It’s now the second watch she wears, allegedly as a painful reminder of him.

Since the Wonderland Center touts that it also treats “love addicts who believe the perfect partner is waiting for them,” maybe they can help

Dina Lohan Praises Daughter for Rehab Decision

Lindsay Lohan's mother has spoken out about the pride she feels for her daughter after the actress/singer checked into a Los Angeles rehab facility. Dina Lohan insists she is proud of her daughter for making the courageous decision to get help for her personal issues. The Mean Girls star announced Wednesday that she had checked into a rehabilitation facility in Los Angeles. Her mom tells US publication the Star, "I'm so proud of her. She's really in a good place right now, spiritually and mentally. She's in an amazing, phenomenal place. She's 20 and she's solid, and she's doing what she needs to do. I don't know that many people who are that secure. It's all about her, and getting back on track. She's fine - she's amazingly fine."
