He's being groomed to be an A-Lister like is dad. I wouldn't discount him as a choice if he can bring in worldwide box office numbers similar to "The Karate Kid". That role might be his to choose.

Yeah, what's the problem with a blaxploitation Static Shock movie ?
The chracter is black, take advantage of it, use the humour and the setting of blaxploitation movies and make something badass, memorable and bold. What a great way to upstage Marvel but with an experimental movie with a B- List character than almost nobody cares about.

That would be Black Lightning.

Static was created to somewhat go against that type.

Why completely change and force Static into that box, when you already have the real thing, a character who perfectly is all that by design. In name, character, look, setting, etc...

If your going to do it you should be channeling the awesome archetype in Roundtree via the already established Black Lightning, not changing Static.
Static is all his own.

Agreed, unless you're going to out-dynamite Black Dynamite, don't bother. Plus, exploitation movies with teenaged characters sounds like a horrid film. If you're going to take advantage of of Static being black, infuse some epic hip hop score ala RZA's movies or Great Gatsby, and cast the most bankable teenaged movie star, who happens to be black, Jaden Smith (without his dad, he does better that way, imho). Also, let him be badass since, honestly, black characters are just assumed to be at least a little bit badass without explanation.

Honestly, being a black superhero is memorable enough, that's another thing you can take advantage of. If you want him to be more memorable, make him an incredible superhero with creative and impressive use of his abilities, and give the film real unashamed heart.
