I guess this could be a longest gap between sequels but more specifically I was thinking about actors in films who have played characters and the longest gap since they've played them from one sequel to the next. For example..

Jeff Bridges as Flynn = 29 years (1982 - 2011)
Paul Newman as Fast Eddie Nelson = 25 years (1961 - 1986)
Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates = 23 years (1960 - 1983)
Peter Mayhew as Chewbaca = 22 years (1983 - 2005)
Sylvester Stallone as Rambo = 20 years (1988 - 2008)
Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones = 19 Years (1989 - 2008)
Leonard Nimoy as Spock = 18 years (1991 - 2009)
Sylvester Stallone as Rocky = 16 years (1990 - 2006)

Sean Connery had a 12 year gap between Diamonds are Forever and Never Say Never Again. Not the longest, but significant.

If you count tv movies, George C. Scott went 16 years between Patton and The Last Days of Patton.

Jamie Lee Curtis went 17 years between Halloween II and H20.

Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker went 16 years between appearances as C3PO and R2D2. Peter Mayhew went 22 years between appearances as Chewbacca. (oops, duplicate)

There was 19 years between The Last Picture Show and Texasville with several significant cast members carrying over.

There was 15 years between Chinatown and The Two Jakes.

Bela Lugosi went 17 years between appearances as Dracula.

Keir Dullea as Dave Bowman - 16 years (2001 a Space Odyssey and 2010 the Year we Make Contact)

From the foreign film/art house circuit. Liv Ullman and Joseph Erlandson went 30 years between Ingmar Bergman's Scenes from a Marriage and Ingmar Bergman's Saraband.

Also 30 years. Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon as Oscar Madison and Felix Unger. The Odd Couple (1968) to The Odd Couple II (1998).

Here's a good link btw.

Not the same question, but I'll note as a related piece of trivia that Michael Caine appeared in both versions of Sleuth, 35 years apart. And he was 29 years between iterations of Get Carter.

I think this thread should be renamed to "Make yourself feel old"

Thought it would be relevant to bump this thread as the Wall Street sequel opens with Michael Douglas reprising his role after 23 years and Jeff Bridges soon to reprise his role in the Tron sequel after 28 years this Christmas.

There's also talk of Robert De Niro reprising his roles in both sequels to Midnight Run (22+ years) and Taxi Driver (34+ years!) as well as John Travolta returning as Tony Manero (27+ years).

Gene Kelly played the same character in 1980's Xanadu as he did in 1944's Cover Girl, so that is a 36 year gap.

With the new Star Wars sequels likely to feature Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher playing Luke, Han and Leia, respectively, thought this thread could use a bump. That'll be a 32 year gap 1983-2015.

Another is Arnold Schwarzenegger as Conan for the potential new film in 2014. 30 years since 1984.

I don't know if this counts but...

David Carradine as Frankestein = 33 years (Death Race 2000 - Death Race)

Dan Arkoyd as Elwood Blues 1980-98 - 18 years.

If they finally make Ghostbusters 3 it will be over twenty years since Akroyd has played Ray Stanz.

X-Files(1998) and X-Files 2 (2008)
David Duchovny as Special Agent Fox Mulder
Gillian Anderson as Special Agent Dana Scully

If you're only going of the movies, otherwise the last time they played the characters prior to 08 was 2002.

Ullman from Scenes from a Marriage to Saraband. Should be at least 30 years.

This thread is about the longest gap in between playing the role. The longest gap Jackman has had in that regard is what 3, 4 years?

Yeah, but there wasn't a gap.

Dolph Lundgren had 17 years between Sgt. Andrew Scott in the Universal Soldier movies.

^^^

You've misread the topic. I think Jackman's longest gap between wolverines will only be 4 years when "the wolverine" comes out".
