Looking for the name of a movie

Ok, I watched this movie years ago when i was a kid so I dont remember much, I do however, remember 2 scenes.

I think the story was about some old lady's son gets married to some chick and the old lady doesnt like the girl so she tries to kill her. Oh and I think it was set on a ranch.

The 2 scenes I remember were:
1)I think the girl was sick in bed, the old lady gave her a piece of pie and stuck some kind of horse pill in it and something happened to the girl.

2)I think it was the girl who pushed the old lady down a flight of stairs and the old lady dies.

Sorry, I know it isnt great detail, but its all i can remember. Anyone think they know the name of this movie?

While there is a thread up for this.. Can anyone remember the name of a movie set in a flooded mall? There was a dam that bursts and a bunch of people get stuck in the mall and have to escape. I seem to remember that there was maybe a convict/killer involved too that was leading them or trying to escape.
