OK, I need help with the identification of this movie.

so when i was young (like maybe 10 years ago, maybe more) i remember watching this movie on tv in which a black man was supposedly wrongfully convicted of murder or something and some white guy fights for his freedom and successfully argues his release. however, when he's released, the white guy finds out he actually is a crazy killer and they like fight at the end or something.

i remember this scene in which the white protagonist visits this old lady and she was like killed or something by the black guy right after he was released. i think religious music was blaring in the background or something.

i can't remember any actors and it's been bugging me for years because i can't remember this weird movie. hopefully someone out there knows what i'm talking about!
