Looking younger than you are & the eventual brick wall!

Im 36 and always have people tell me I look like I am in mid-late 20s.

In fact, I had a new martial arts student last week tell me that he didnt believe that I was over 30. If I still had a thick head of hair like I did 10 years ago, I suspect I would get this reaction even more often. Both of my parents look young though. My dad is in his early 70s and every thinks he is 50.

I just turned 41 but people always assume I'm in my early 30's. I've always had people think I'm younger than I actually am.

For those of you that have a problem with looking younger than you are, don't. Age will eventually catch up so don't be in such a hurry.

I was confused for a junior high student once when I was in college.

I think people's metabolisms slow down at different rates for different people, hence why it is harder for some to put on weight until they reach a certain age.
Yeah my bf's parents are of fairly normal size, so I expect his metabolism to slow down....sometime. My parents, well, their doctor yells at them for failing to put on more weight. :funny:

Also, if people act a certain way - ie more confident and put together, they can give off the impression of being older even if they look younger. The same holds true vice versa.
But that's something I don't get! I act really silly!

I'm always being mistaken for younger, especially since Asians never seem to age. It does get annoying when I talk about events that happened say 20 years ago and people automatically say "you probably can't remember that very well as you would've been just in kindergarten."
Yeah I remember I had an Asian housemate who my mom swore was not a day over 26. I had gotten a closer look at him and saw a bit of crow's feet, so I said 28. His real age? 36. :lmao: We should have known better, we're already Asian!

Have you seen this? :funny:

Although my mom has hit menopause and hasn't ballooned yet. I will probably stay this size (which I hit in MIDDLE SCHOOL) until the day I die. :o

I wish I looked younger. I've always looked older than my age. Which was cool when I was in junior high and high school, but now that I'm approaching my late 20's... :/

Is your bf Asian too? Just wondered as that might have an effect on his ageing process.

Well I can't speak in your case, but I do know that if you make some intelligent observations and speak in a distinguished way, people can think you're older, or at least wiser than your years. I used to get that when I was in my late teens (older people thought I was in 20s) but now that I speak to people the same age or younger than me, they still think I'm younger.

What annoys me is when people younger than me (who look older) call me "young man" and start talking down to me as if I were born only yesterday.

lol, I haven't seen that before. It is funny and somewhat indicative of Asians, although I suspect that women who are that short at 120 years old were probably always that short. They can't possibly shrink that much!! :hehe:

BTW what did you win your Hype Award for? Was it It Girl?

Inspired by another thread I saw, who else looks young for their age?

And does the Fountain of Youth end abruptly at a certain point, causing you age RAPIDLY , like you've caught a glimpse of the Ark of the Covenant?

I'm 28 and I get mistaken for being 19-23 all the time. While it's great, it can get annoying when older folks brush me off, or try to undermine me... thinking that's I'm a stupid kid. For the most part I can't complain but I'm just worried that when I hit my early 30s, everything will deteriorate!

that pretty much describes me to a T (same age an everything)

I look younger than I am. I grew out some facial hair which I think makes me look closer to my age (26)
sadly that doesn't work for me... if anything my facial hair makes me look younger

When I started at my previous job. A guy asked me if I took a moped to work. I was 20 at the time.

Nope, Caucasian, and his parents look their age. Although he's still very slight and doesn't drink or smoke so he doesn't have the aging associated with that. :funny:

In true Asian fashion, it was for "Smartest Poster." :awesome:

But that just makes you be part of the playing field for much longer, especially if you still look younger when you're in your mid to late 30s, say.

Haha, while I'm not there yet, people that I work with would always say "Oh but you're too young to remember that." It's flattering to a certain degree.

As an Asian-American male, I can that this diagram rings true.

But it's hard to tell. I'm first generation and my mother, aunts, and uncles were all thin (from pictures) when they came to America. But with the American diet, they gained a lot of weight because their body isn't used to Westernized food. Even till this very day.

So it's hard to tell how they would look if they stayed in the east, and how they would look now. I figure my mom, if she lost weight, wouldn't look 54.

Yes, to a certain degree, but it's also frustrating when that becomes the grounds for why you are prevented from doing certain things by people who are younger than you. Or they think you have to do certain basic things which you've done years before because either they assume you were too young to appreciate it back then or that you can't possibly have done it properly.

It's the equivalent of asking someone to go back and take high school exams just because they don't trust that you can have properly graduated because they didn't see you doing it themselves.

I used to get ID'd even when I was approaching 30, but now after gaining more pounds I look much older and (I guess) closer to my age. I'm hoping that I can shed about 10 pounds this year, but that's easier to say than done.

It's a blessing and a curse, depending on the crowds you may run with.

I wonder how Dorian Gray coped with this? Of course, he probably had other things on his mind each time he looked at the painting.

I'm 40, and twice today someone thought I was in my 20's. I have gray hair to boot.
