Lately I've been having a problem trying to figure out this guy. Dobbs is of course best known for his strong stance against illegal immigrants, being for pro-border control, and being a moderate independent. A lot of people like to slam him for being a anti-hispanic bigot and being a big cause for the hostility towards the latin community. What do you think?

Lou Dobbs IMO is a xenophobe. Dobbs is an isolationist and there have been many times that I have felt that he blames hispanic immigrants for the problems in our economy.

He also IMO has a strong personal dislike for Obama.

Where is the "A little of both" option?

That would mean balance here Demo, we don't have that here damn it.....lol

I don't agree with every thing he says. He does speak the truth some times. Too bad he's like the Hispanic communities Strom Thurmond. Just replace the Racism with Xenophobia.

I truely believe that he want nothing more than to get the borders safe for the US and I agree with him to a point but he goes way overboard most of the time with the rhetoric IMO.

So I say alittle of both.

Well, considering "Xenophobic" is a descriptive word and you use it as a noun, and also considering that "Whose Lou Dobbs" implies ownership over Lou Dobbs and not "Who is Lou Dobbs," I'll vote for "Try Again Next Time."

I would say a little bit of both...but I don't have that option to vote for.

I think a little of both.....he's a consistent, principled guy, and I think efforts to label him racist because he wants strong immigration reform is not fair, don't paint a legitimate policy decision by a broad brush....

Now, Pat Buchanan, that guy is a real xenophobe....even though he makes some points here and there....

I just realized that I forgot to put in the "a little bit of both" option because that's what I'm starting to believe. Perhaps I can ask a mod to fix it. Anyways, I do think he goes overboard with the immigration debate. I started this thread after I saw him fuming over Obama's suggesting that American's should learn different languages, particulary Spanish (since we are one of the few western countries that is language limited). Something that I do find interesting about him is the fact he is married to a Mexican American women and her Mexican born parents live with him.

Lou Dobbs' wife is of Mexican descent. Just because he's vehemently against illegal immigration does not make him a racist or a xenophobe.

He's a bit of both. He's dead on when it comes to his tirades against outsourcing and offshoring and how our government has aided and abetted all these corporations in doing it. He's a bit overzealous and over the line on some of his immigration stuff and the things he'd like to do to stop immigrants from coming into the country illegally. I don't think he's racist, I just think he takes "taking care of our own" in this country a bit too far at times when it comes to certain subjects.

I agree.....

Thanks to whoever added the "little bit of both" option!

his Tirades can sometimes make me worry that he is more upset about the fact that it's MEXICAN illegal immigration not so much that it's Illegal Immigration.

Yeah, I would agree with that.

That's how I feel. He does make some very valid points in his commentaries, but he does it way too often and does go overboard to the point of xenophobia.

such wit and insight.
you truly lead by example.

I believe Lou Dobbs is a one-issue blabbermouth and that he is fully aware of this fact. The only reason why his show is still on the air is because he adopted this issue and made it his own, and enough hot-blooded rednecks with nothing but contempt for Mexicans (oh, and I guess illegal immigrants, too) and access to basic cable have enough time on their hands to watch the same rants over and over again five times a week. While I don't necessarily think that nor care if Dobbs is xenophobic, I do think that the past three years of his show have come off as nothing less than that. He's a wise manipulator and knows how to sell himself, even if he has to dumb down his antics to appeal to those middle class workers who are too busy sitting on their asses watching his show over a six pack than capable of going into a field to pick cabbage for $1.45 an hour.

Lou Dobbs IMV is indicative of the mind set that there are some groups of people that are disposable.

Dobbs'views are in line with the same views that led to Jim Crowism and segrigationism. Except this time it's hispanics.
