Usually it's only done to sock-puppets though. When it's applied to long-time posters then their banning offense was usually pretty vile.

I will say this…. 'Why Are You Crouching, Spock?' had one of the best handles here. Too bad everything else about him was completely awful.

He was a pain to have in the gaming boards. he hated pretty much every single video game that wasn't Shogun 2 and was one of those annoying PC Master Race gamers.

And yet he would spend all his time in gaming threads of games he hated complaining about how much he hated those games. It got so bad he got kicked out of several gaming threads before he was banned.
