Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Lucy Lawless joins the cast in Season 2

So Lawless is apparently playing "Isabelle Hartley." Original character or cover for someone else?

Why would Drew be a problem.
Spider-Man rights would not affect.

I doubt we will ever see a hero that could make a cinematic movie
No Carol Danvers, Bobby Morse, or Abigail Brand

and now we have Bobby Morse joining the show......

Well, that's a little disappointing. I think my fan-casting got a little out of control! Still, I'm looking forward to seeing Lucy Lawless on SHIELD even if she's just playing a regular, newly created SHIELD agent (as opposed to the leader of SWORD or one of the leaders of HYDRA).

I'm fine with her being an original character - particularly because comicbook SHIELD characters have a habit of getting killed off on this show.

Was that her costume for a later season of Xena? It looks sexy, and certainly sexier than her original brown leather costume. I don't recall her midriff was showing that much in Season 1 and 2.

It's the alternate costume that she wore in the final two-part episode. In summary, Xena had to go into battle with the purpose of being killed, so obviously this "armour" made it easier for that to happen.

Xena didn't show her mid-riff until ... season 6 from memory. I think Lucy Lawless was so proud of her body after losing all the baby weight from season 5 that they went crazy with how small and revealing they could make her costumes.

Personally, I think her original armour is WAY sexier than that armour.

Anyway, back on topic. I understand that a fellow agent named "Isabelle" was Victoria Hand's girlfriend in the comics. Do we think that is who Lucy Lawless is playing or is the same first name just a coincidence?

I blame The Dark Knight Rises for this constant fan speculation.

Not every character is secretly someone else.

She literally never showed her midriff until the last season.

I really hate that costume, perhaps its the colors and the odd mismatching fabric. Her iconic outfit is far more appealing.

I blame Iron Man 3. Everyone is Trevor! He's an AK-TOR! :funny:

I seriously hoped she would be Jen Walters. Too bad :(

Should be interesting to see the type of character she will be. Hopefully will be on the show for a while.

I'm surprised it took so long to happen considering the revealing costumes her sidekick was always wearing.

They each had their own appeal. And while Lucy Lawless was always in great shape, she never had a sculpted six pack like Renee O'Connor (aka Gabrielle).

I find Renee's abs to be quite overrated personally. Greats arms though.

I really hope there would be duel between Lucy and Agent May.

I've been thinking about it and it would make sense that she's really Madame Hydra seeing as Kraken is the main villain of season 2.

First look:

Not a particularly flattering photo of Lucy Lawless.

I thought her character was meant to have "sex appeal" (or something like that from the casting notice). It seems that they've deliberately gone "plain Jane" with a mumsy hairstyle as well. Or maybe they're just playing up to lesbian stereotypes since the latest indications are that Isabelle will be Victoria Hand's bereaved partner.

Isabel was the name of Victoria Hand's girlfriend in the comics. I wonder if that' who Lucy might be playing? It'd certainly give her a reason to go after Coulson and his team.

I said in the general SHIELD thread that she looks like someone's mother in that photo. Maybe she's playing a sensible and no-nonsense agent though, and someone who is also grieving because of Victoria Hand, so has no time for trying to look sexy.

I'll also fan-cast the Flawless Lawless as Jessica Drew. I doubt it would be permitted under the existing licensing arrangements, but a fan can dream!

An older, alternate Black Widow (i.e. Yelena) might also be cool.

Flawless Lawless. Exceptionally well put my friend. I'm so excited for her addition!

wait, was that it? if so, I don't like that one bit.

What a waste!
I just hope she is in more episodes one way or another. She could have been really badass with a metal arm!

What a waste!

I agree. I know this kind of development is one of Joss Whedon's most wanted story-elements, from right back to the pilot episode of Buffy, but after all the promotion about Lucy Lawless being cast, I expected more.

It also seems like a foolish decision by Lucy Lawless' agents. Sure, it's unlikely that she ever would have been cast in a Marvel big-screen adventure as a hero like Captain Marvel or even a supporting character like Betty Ross, but they've now pretty much burned their bridges for any future appearance in the shared Marvel cinematic universe.

Still, I have to say, Lucy Lawless (or her people) have never made the wisest casting decisions. Turning down a role in the X-Men films (presumably Jean Grey, although never confirmed). Turning down a big-screen Wonder Woman movie. Failing to even show up to audition for Galadriel in LOTR. There have been some interesting decisions along the way.
