Horror M. Night Shyamalan’s “Trap”

I saw for myself his last 3 films (Glass, Old and Knock at the Cabin) without trusting reviews and got burned 3 times in a row.

I am tired of this whole "see for yourself" argument when more often than not i end up agreeing with audience reception after I see a film that ends up being awful. I used to regret not reading through these comments because people "told me" I am supposed to enjoy something when more often than not my gut feeling told me otherwise.

This is why we have RT, Metacritic, film forums and countless other media platforms nowadays. They've helped me quite a lot on making an informed decision beforehand on both good and trash films.

Time and money are precious nowadays and I would rather spend it where it's worth doing so.
Sounds like a good process to make an informed decision by first trusting your gut and pulling from different places to come to a conclusion, especially knowing M. Night films.

I’d agree with others, the marketing was excellent and while I did expect some corny dialogue and odd choices, it was just too much. There was a point in the movie my body couldn’t take it anymore and I started cracking up loudly. Something that caught me off guard as I don’t like to disrupt the audience. I just couldn’t continue to take it seriously, so at least I had a little bit of fun.

Wouldn't have been cheaper to just invest in your daughter's music career instead of wasting people's talent on a mediocre movie?

Ah hell, I'll still see it. Always love a good John Tate flick.

I will wait when its on streaming.

The premise is interesting enough.

For all its faults, it was good to see Josh Hartnett in a role like this and he was good in it. It would be exciting to see him in something similar but better film.

Film is half decent for the first half or so, but the second half is atrocious. Film is so awfully paced and structured, that it just drags for what feels like an eternity at the end.

Hartnett was fantastic though.

Taking this for what it is - a schlocky, tongue-in-cheek B-movie thriller/comedy - it was okay. Biggest issues are the cheesy, unnatural dialogue and M Night's daughter being miscast. A better actress in her role would have improved the entire film, IMO. Loved the premise, but didn't love some of the directions the story takes.

Depends how you feel about Knock at the Cabin which I found homophobic...
Didn't see it but the last "We're so back" moment for him was Split as far as I'm concerned. There are more movies of his in the "It's so over" category. This actually seemed intriguing from the trailers.

His ideas are always so fascinating but he’s just lost how to execute them.

I mean; there’s a reason this might’ve opened to 20M if it had actual good word of mouth.

Was it The Village or Signs that started his downfall? He tried to kill Will Smith's movie career, too.

Hearing a mention of Split,
I think of,
Glass.
Subsequently,
I think of, ANYTHING ELSE!

Glass didn't bother me, funny enough. It was in no way good but I guess because my expectations were below the ground I didn't end up hating it.

Still going to see it.
If I lower my expectations, I should still be able to enjoy it.

This is what I’ve mainly been reading from folks. Hartnett in a serial killer type series/flick would be good to see. There is this old Italian flick that’s always kinda stuck with me, more the premise of it. The lead detective is the killer and would get off by returning at the scene of the crimes, just to see if could get away with it. There was suppose to be an American remake a few years back, eh.

Shame to hear that this is mediocre but it’s no surprise since it’s Shayamalan.

Instead of paying for this, just watch the Double Toasted Bad Movie Roast of The Happening, which came out today.
