Well, I just made my first big purchase since picking up Wolverine: Origins 1-3, and Wolverine #1. I ordered the first 3 Wolverine TPB's titled, Brotherhood, Coyote Crossing, and Return Of The Native.

I ordered from Amazon.ca and saved some money on the Free Shipping, coming in at $52. Which is actually good compared to buying them at my LCS for 20 odd dollars apiece.

After I save up a bit more cash, I'll order the remaining 4 Arcs and be all caught up.

So this is my first "real" leap into Marvel, and comics in general. After I'm caught up on Wolverine, Im gunna dive into Daredevil and The Incredible Hulk, and look forward to contributing to the forum.

CHEERS.

Get Frank Miller's original Wolverine TPB.

That will set the bar higher for you when you're ready.

Good for you Rellings. Cheers to you for picking up this horrible addiction. It's all downhill from here. :( Soon you'll be doing sexual favors for old men in parking lots for comics money.

AMEN. Best mini of all time.

Awesome, Rellings, youre an example for all new readers. Boy did his research, asked questions and got all the info he needed. He didnt go in with an OMG cover looks roxxorz mindset. Good for you.

gotta agree with Frank Miller's Wolverine

though personally I am so sick of the character, especially all the ridiculous crap they've done with him lately, like the regenerating in minutes from a skeleton.

Don't blame the character, blame the crappy writers they give him too. I miss the days when he was drawn/written like Clint Eastwood with claws.

I recommend Daredevil. That book has constantly been amazing.

What sucks though is that Wolverine was starting to get real good up till that new writer went on. The issue right before his start was a great single issue.

Good stuff Rellings, I aswell am also going into comics again, but more of a prolonged leap for me. This forum definetely has helped and I thank everyone aswell:)

Good to know you're here rellings.

While It's not marvel I STRONGLY recomend you get your hands on the Preacher TPB's some of the best writing you will ever encounter and one of the most well thought analysis' of the nature of religion I have ever seen. It's what got me into comics and if you like Wolverine you'll get a kick out of Cassidy(similar sense of humour/honour)

Look forward to a life of no money :(, but some of the most interesting debate the world has to offer, such wonders as why doesn't spidey shoot his webs out of his ass etc, :D. Welcome!

Daredevil. Loooots of Daredevil. Very good stuff. As for newer material, I'd recommend Astonishing X-men and The Ultimates.

Oh, and The Punisher books ever since Welcome Back Frank has consistently been good. The Punisher and Daredevil seem to be Marvel's most stable characters in their roster. You can spin around with your eyes closed and pick up something with them in it and find gold.

What if he's a religious conervative?

Then I would argue that someone with strong faith wouldn't have it shaken by an alternative viewpoint. I believe in god, I just don't believe in religion, however I regularly debate with atheists because in order to fully understand an argument you have to see it from all sides. It's an interesting disection of religion in general not just christianity.

The whole point is that god is not god in the book. God is a representation of religion and how far it has strayed from the path. Jesse upholds the true christian ideals and is demanding that it return to being about faith, honesty and goodness of spirit rather than people being like children. That's the focus of the book that sometimes even the most sinful people (remember the bill hicks scene) are doing something to make the world a better place, while the "good christians" who go to church every sunday but spend the rest of the week lying and cheating are bringing us down. I gave that book to an irish friend (he totally dug cassidy) and he pointed this out to me. He said that it's like the protestant vs catholic debate, protestant's believe in morality and denying themselves pleasure, catholics can do all sorts of nasty crap and then say sorry once a week (a little hard line but if you've been over there you'd understand how serious an issue this is with the irish, not just what you see about the troubles but in everyday life). Neither one is right

Either way you don't have to take the book as read but you'd be depriving yourself of a great work of art if you didn't.

Rellings, would I be wrong by assuming that you're picking up comics that have had movies about them (I know Spidey isn't there and X-Men as a whole, but rather Wolverine). If it's so and you're looking for well written comics you don't have to restrain yourself to Marvel. You could go to Dark Horse and get the Hellboy comics, they're way beter than the movie. If you saw Constantine, you should check out DC's Hellblazer, the comic that inspired it.

Hellblazer is much better than the film, takes a wider view rather than just christian dogma you have every religion represented, it's like a huge course in theology across the globe, albeit with acid wit

Meh, nothing wrong with the 'OMG cover looks roxxorz' mindset. It's pretty much the way I think about 80% here got started in comics. They saw something they thought they would enjoy.

Good point. I bought X-Men #133 because of the cover. Hooked ever since :)

Someone had recommended that to me when I first joined the forum and it
has me very interested. The characters all seem unique, and the wild west theme is pretty cool.

The movie thing is just a coincidence, there are alot of Comic-based movies.....especially Marvel.

Same here. Bought Uncanny X-Men #365 because of it.

Maybe, still people tend to buy crappy books with cool covers on them. You guys got lucky.

CHEERS.

The current issues of Daredevil are awesome. If you want to start with Daredevil start with Guardian Devil, it started the rebooted Daredevil series, and then go from there into Brian Michael Bendis' run with artist Alex Maleev, just a really classic Daredevil run, and then that run goes into the current Ed Brubaker/Michael Lark run.

You will DEFINITELY enjoy yourself.

And if you want to get into Spider-Man, pick up Kraven's Last Hunt and Essential Spider-man Volume 1.

Or if that doesn't fit your taste, try Ultimate Spider-Man, a modern retelling of Spider-Man for a new era.

Once I have the cash, I am going to buy the Daredevil TPB's starting with Gaurdian Devil to the current issues. For Spiderman I probably do the same with Amazing Spider-man.

On a totally unrelated note: I, for the life of me cannot figure out how get an Avatar. Is there some post requirement?

I think 500 posts? And since nobody else has recommended it, Runaways.
