I know a handful of you are fans of Tyler Perry movies or the plays, and Feb 20 comes his latest flick, where eponymous Madea hits the slammer. This is his first movie of 2009, so I would say he's got about 4 more to release this year. :o

No you can't.

and I was originally a fan of TP's, exposed to his 'Madea' plays about a year or so before his first films came out. I've seen all of his theatrical films, and if I'm still able to watch all of my movies for free, then I'll probably be watching this one too.. :p

I'm still waiting for "Madea's Bat Mitzvah" that was mentioned on "The Boondocks".

Maeda's First Porno.

Maeda In Jury Duty.

Maeda vs Predator.

I'd see it if Madea got prison raped..."American History X" style.

Number one with a literal bullet with 41 mil. Holy ****. :wow:

Not really surprised. Now...let's get the ball going on a Madea verses Jason film. Can you smell the money with that film? :woot:

I'd have to guess that Madea would win because she dropped Jason all the way down to sixth place:oldrazz:

I know. And, I hate to sound racist, but I believe I have a right considering all of Perry's movies depict white people as "bad people". But this film is like Festivus for the black people. If this film was released during 'The Dark Knight's second week run, you'd notice a huge drop because the whole black community raves around this film.

"Tyler Perry doesn't care about white people."

First Paul Blart, now Madea.

We are getting dumber and dumber as a society.

Let me tell you why this film had a successful opening. First off, all black cast. Look at all the other movies out in theaters...white white white white movies. Not because Hollywood is racist, but because black actors who are serious are hard to come by.

Second of all, black people assume this film will not appeal to white people, so they are more open to going to the theater to see it with out having 'that annoying whtie person' there. HAHA.

Third....it's an all black film and the white people in the film are made to look 'bad'. Seriously, that's the only reason this film appeals to the black community. And there's nothing wrong with it (not really...okay, yeah, everyone's a bit racist) because every community of people needs their type of films. It would suck for people of a differant race to only have film that never featured people who represented them.

4th reason. There's a lot of black people in America. What?

5the reason. Black men in drag film usually do well. Would you find a black guy in a dress funny? I would, because it's so ironic (think about it a little bit deeper)

I get that, and your points are noteworthy, as well. The second point happened against myself a couple of times in movie theatres, most recently with: 'The Dark Knight'. So guy kept cheering whenever The Joker would appear on-screen and randomly laugh when the entirety of the theatre was silent. Some profanity was exchanged in the mist of things, before he was booted out before the mid-point of the film.

I know fanboys will reel at this, but the Tyler Perry fanbase is just as plentiful as the fanbase for a lot of the properties we love. I come from an extremely large extended black family from Mississippi, and most of them have seen the plays, know the dialogue by heart, and went to see most of his flicks. He's got a massive following, ain't much you can do about that, short of killing the man. :o Black people enjoy comedies with a message.

Every time I see the title of this movie, I keep wondering why the hell black people are appropriating an ancient Greek feminist play.

Yes. They can go see a film in theaters without the worry of that "annoying white person" complaining that they are being disruptive. I swear, if whitie spoke up during Madea for someone to be quiet you'd have one dead honky (I'm white by the way...haha..but I know the truth of the situation and anyone who disagree's is someone in denial)

I had the same experiance with The Dark Knight one time. Always cheering out loud when the Joker popped up, and laughing during the Gordan/Dent in the hospital scene. The moment Dents face was shown all I heard was this guy laughing and saying "MAN, HE TORE UP".

But to be fair, I saw Friday the 13th this week and a white couple behind me kept being the stereotypical jerks who state the obviously very loud. It's like they have no sense of an inside a freakin theater mannor. I did not pay money to hear someone's commentary during a film.

*laughs* Most black people have had trouble with the law, have been to jail themselves and see a film advertised taht is a black film about an old fashioned black woman going to jail and think 'Man...I can dig that'. Just like the nerdy white guy see's a film like 'Fanboys' and they feel they have something to relate to and can imagin themselves wanting to be in that film.

if the movie had white people instead.. i bet there would be a far different outcome.

Well, wasn't Kathy Bates in one of his movies?

The reason the film did well, especially within the African-American community is because first off a lot of us have already seen all the stage plays and Tyler has a huge fanbase.

Second off, his movies always have a strong theme or message that is prominent in most African-American communities and families, so it builds a strong connection with the target audience.

And plus they are just damn fun and funny.
