I just got back from the Comedy Central on Campus Tour show here at UCF with Christian Finnegan, Greg Giraldo, Zach Galifianakis, and Nick Thune.

And man. Some crazy mad Cook hatin' goin' on. :wow:

Galifianakis' entire act ended with "Kill Dane Cook" written in bold, while Giraldo jokingly opened up a symposium on why Dane Cook sucks. And the crowd of college students (the same ones who made this man famous in the first place) all cheered along with it.

So is this just plain playa hatin', or does Dane Cook really blow? :trans:

Well, because he steals jokes, and his act mainly thrives on the physical presentation, and repeating statements.

Edd is right though, a lot of the comics are also pissed at how he's just risen to the top all of a sudden.

Some people have said that he's been in the club when they've performed their act, and he steals some of it, sometimes all of it when he comes on.

I like to consider Dane Cook the male Ellen Degeneres. Decent set-ups involving ordinary, mundane situations briefly brought to the audience's attention, but strangely lacking in a punchline. The difference is that Cook accentuates his jokes with wild contortions and shouting.

Really, Dane Cook is an amusing comic. His are the types of jokes you and your friends could throw back and forth, and have a ball with ("Have you ever gone to the bathroom? Right, but you're out of toilet paper? So now you're stuck on the john, staring at the empty roll. ARRG!! Why can't you have paper on you?! I'm so ANGRY!"), but can only go so far in the world of stand-up before people realize you really don't have anything worthwhile to say.

Some of the criticisms are warranted, but most of the backlash is just plain ol' playa-hate.

He's a lot like Carlos Mencia, you think he's funny until you realize how much **** he steals from other comics.

Ohhhh there just doing this cause its popular. people are player hating *****es.

and farmerfran Dane hasn't risen to the top all of a sudden. last year on Kimmel Dane said it took him 16 years to get where he's at now.

So i wouldn't call that rising to the top over night.

He's referring to his meteoric rise in terms of coming out of seemingly nowhere to be this hit comedian. No small parts in movies, then a TV show, and then movies. Just BOOM. Dane Cook.

He had bit parts in movies. Plus he's had a few comedy cds.

I think we all need to look at the bright side, here: Dat Phan isn't famous.

See? You had to identify him as "that guy from..." With any luck, his "my mom speaks with an accent. Ha ha ha!" jokes will die like a fart in the wind.

Let's save our hate for someone who deserves it. Like Carlos Mencia.

Well thats the only place i know him from.

Its a known fact once you become famous and popular there are some people bound to hate you for some known reason.

People just gotta hate stuff that is popular thats just how life is now.

i have the same feelings for Dane Cook that i have for Tim Burton. i like some of his stuff, but f**king hate most of his fan base

BTW, Zach Galifianakis was bloody brilliant tonight.

Well, he's not funny...and he's popular. I can understand the hate...and comedians are an angry bunch overall.

People are just jealous of each other in genreal. especally comedians there pissed if someones more famous then them.

Everybodys jealous of something or somebody in life wheter they admit or not.

I like some of his stuff. I like his earlier gigs because they seemed more weird and off-kilter. The way he told his jokes, its like he made jokes because he thought they were funny and if you didn't like them then **** you. But he went pretty mainstream with his humor and tried to really start appealing to the college kids so that he could stay with the younger crowd (he's around 35). His humor is mostly situational so its not like you can really dwell on his jokes for more than what the attention span of his intended audience requires. You want some funny **** that involves great storytelling then go watch some Richard Pryor stand-up before he sobered up. Dane Cook is what he is...easily forgettable.

I do have issues with him stealing bits from other comedians, as I do with any bit stealer, but for the most part the jokes he stole were towards the beginning of his popular career (not an uncommon thing), and once he became so well known he started using 99% (as far as I know) of his own material, or at least modifying common subjects enough to be passed as original. His physical presentaton is by FAR the best there is out today, and I think that you'll see stand-up start to move in that direction. And I can remember seeing him back when he absolutely blew, before he really developed his own style, and he's come a long long way since then. Hell, just look at his Premium blend appearance (I believe it was mid-late 90's)compared to his first Comedy Central Presents (early 2000's) and you can see how much he grew as an artist.

He was funny on SNL, but that's only becuase he had help.
Everything else he does sucks beyond belief.
