Serves him right. Dumping 2500 pennies on the counter and demanding that they be counted? What a *****e move.

That is ridiculous, money is money, but did he put the pennies in rolls?
That would be his responsibility, if he did then I am on his side and yes he should sue, but if he just dumped twenty-five hundred pennies on the counter and left it there for them to sort out I'd side with the cops.

Ah, thanks Drizzle for not being as lazy as me... Yah, in that case the guy is clearly in the wrong, these people aren't paid to count and sort dirty ass pennies.

The guy isn't in the wrong. Your bill is 25 dollars and you put 25 dollars on the counter, they have to count it, same thing here.

He could've paid with the pennies he had, but expecting the staff at the clinic to count the coins is stupid. Serves the sour grape right!

He was being a jerk. But until they get rid of the penny, you can and should be able to use it. If someone is to lazy to do their job and count them, they should be fired. If he fights this fine in court he will win imo.

You sound like a **** customer if I ever heard of one.
Do you really lack that much class that you'd do that to someone?

I'm gonna go with...it was a dick move on his part for just dumping all those pennies on the counter, but legally, he is absolutely right. It's simply a technicality. A penny is currency just like a $20 bill is. Call it what you want, but he still paid his bill. He oughta sue because without a doubt, he will win the case. The inconvenience doesn't warrant a fine.

That's irrelevant. You or I definitely wouldn't pay a bill in pennies, but that doesn't mean we're supposed to get a fine if we chose to.

Learn to use these, have some consideration. It isn't the job of someone to have to spend a few hours sorting out your pennies. Even if it is at the 7-11, you expect other customers to be made to wait because someone is an inconsiderate jerk?

 If you read my first post, I say I hate pennies but the guy is not in the wrong for using pennies.

Let us not forget that this is a medical office we are speaking about and not a 7-11 or a Walmart. People have presumably better things to attend to than to count out a ludicrous amount of pennies.

When I did night shift at Winks and someone did that to me I'd just smile and tell them to move on and my boss would back me up on it, in the end it is a private enterprise and we did reserve the right to refuse service. I ain't no ****ing slave and anyone who wanted to treat me like one could wait for me after work.

I know if you take a bulk amount of pennies to the bank & expect for them to count it, they'll just give you the paper rolls to do it yourself.

- Classless? Yes
- Inconvenient? Definitely
- Illegal? No

And this is coming from a guy who used to work at a grocery store.

:o

People can pay for things any way they want. It's aggravating when it's all in coins.

Not sure about all stores but I know that privately owned companies can refuse service to someone that is big enough of a turd to try to use an unreasonable amount of pennies to pay.

I can see suing someone over the inconvenience of it actually. You come into my place of business to pay a bill and you just dump out the amount and cost me business in the process? Bet your ass you are getting sued and I am pretty sure that is what is in contention, not the actual currency, but the disruption of business.

Hey if you don't want my money, then I won't pay, its as simple as that. Pennies are money.

I will keep a pillow case next to the cash, fill it with your money, and hit you in the head with it, escape to Mexico, have ceviche by the sea.

It's not illegal to be an ass. If someone can be fined for paying with legal us currency...well, I'm just flabbergasted.

So if a man owes $2,500 and pays with one dollar bills shall he be fined too?

I understand the guy was doing it to be a jerk, and I can sympathize with the teller. But all in all this guy did nothing wrong other then taking a grudge out on a teller that probably had nothing to do with the dispute. No fine should be levied.

And if they refused payment via a legal tender then the debt should be wiped clean.

That guy is a jerk. Serves him right getting fined for paying in pennies.

$2500 in dollar bills is much tidier and easier to count than 2500 pennies, but you shouldn't throw that amount at a person like they're some ****e.

Seems like the law disagrees with you, take it up on capitol hill.

That is great logic.
Everyone will start converting their cash to pennies and flinging the sum at debt collectors!
Be an ******* and you won't have to pay your bills! See how the economy fairs then.
