BEIJING (Reuters) - A Chinese man dropped dead after playing Internet games for three consecutive days, state media said on Monday as China seeks to wean Internet addicts offline.

The man from the southern boomtown of Guangzhou, aged about 30, died on Saturday after being rushed to the hospital from the Internet cafe, local authorities were quoted by the Beijing News as saying.
"Police have ruled out the possibility of suicide," the newspaper said, adding that exhaustion was the most likely cause of death. It did not say what game he was playing.
China, worried about the spread of pornography and politically incorrect content, has banned the opening of new cybercafes this year and issued orders limiting the time Internet users can spend playing online.
In April, President Hu Jintao launched a campaign to rid the Internet of "unhealthy" content and make it a platform for Communist Party doctrine.

I was about to ask if he was chatting online with babes all day, but I read it was WoW that did him in :csad:

Die in game, die in real life!

Hahaha, good use.

Anyway, I hear these stories and am tempted to mock these delicate Asian lightweight gamers...but then I recall that long ago when I was addicted to Asheron's Call, the longest I went was like 28 hours, and the thing that stopped me was that I went blind due to what I strongly believe was a mini-stroke as I was drinking coffee and whiskey and chain-smoking the whole time and I had been going for a full day before I started playing AC...so...2 days awake, a little over 1 of which was spent playing severely dehydrated, and I went blind in one eye and couldn't read or think and got a fiery lightning bolt of pain that split my brain in twain.

Awesome movie!

Actually never seen it before...

Blizzard has a hell of a track record for this sort of thing, Starcraft addiction used to be a real problem in some places, like Korea.

This is a myth.

It is phsyically impossible for a man to drop dead for no reason.

It is like believing in "fan death" in Korea.

Are you going to be a fiction novelist, one day, Wilhelm?

What the HELL IS SO ADDICTING ABOUT THAT GAME?!

I've always wondered...could someone answer my question?

Yeah but you still had one good eye left.

Anyone who could answer your question is probably too busy playing WoW to do so.

At any rate, the Chinese government could very likely be exaggerating the association of his death with the internet and gaming. Dude probably had a heart attack or something and happened to be online when it happened so they used it as an opportunity to say "Look! The internet and playing games on it will kill you because it is so addictive!"
