DENVER – A good Samaritan who helped push three people out of the path of a pickup truck before being struck and injured has gotten a strange reward for his good deed: A jaywalking ticket.

Family members said 58-year-old bus driver Jim Moffett and another man were helping two elderly women cross a busy Denver street in a snowstorm when he was hit Friday night.

Moffett suffered bleeding in the brain, broken bones, a dislocated shoulder and a possible ruptured spleen. He was in serious but stable condition Wednesday.

The Colorado State Patrol issued the citation. Trooper Ryan Sullivan said that despite Moffett's intentions, jaywalking contributed to the accident.

Moffett had been driving his bus when the two women got off. In the interest of safety, he got out and, together with another passenger, helped the ladies cross.

Moffett's stepson, Ken McDonald, said the driver of the pickup plowed into his stepfather, but not before Moffett pushed the two women out of the way.

When he awoke in intensive care, he learned of the ticket. "His reaction was dazed and confused. I was a little angry," said McDonald.

The other man also was cited for jaywalking, while the pickup driver was cited with careless driving that led to injury. Sullivan said the two elderly women haven't been cited but the investigation is ongoing.

Remind that guy to let the ***** die next time he gets a chance.

Some cops are just plain idiots. :whatever:

Don't like the ticket, don't commit the offense

********. Hopefully he won't have to pay for the ticket.

How stupid of police. Yes...next time just let the old ladies cross the street in a snow storm so that they can trip and fall and get hit and get a ticket next time:dry: I hope the media pounces on this.

There are things called crosswalks, and also a bright idea called "wait till it's safe to cross the street before going"

Well actually, his jaywalking WAS part of the problem, because where he was walking was out of the sight of a car, truck whatever turning the corner. Which is one of the reasons WHY they have jaywalking laws.

The truckdriver also got a reckless drving citation.

And unlike SOME OF YOU, (you meanies) he said he would do it again if it was needed to help 2 little old ladies cross the street.

I did read the article. Vehicles yield the right of way to pedestrians at crosswalks. If a pedestrian is crossing outside the crosswalk (usually between intersections), then the pedestrian yields the right of way to the vehicles.

I understand the fact that legally, yes, he jaywalked, but he did so to get these old women the hell off the road and wound up needing to save their lives by almost giving his. If anyone, why weren't the old ladies ticketed?

Well, technically if they weren't in the street, but on the sidewalk at the point of the accident....

Then were they jaywalking????????

Depends on where they were crossing before the accident took place. If it was between 2 intersections then they were jaywalking. If this entire situation took place in the crosswalk, then neither they or the bus driver warrant a ticket for jaywalking.

I guess what I'm saying, if I were the lawyer for the ladies trying to get them out of a $22 ticket....:cwink:

The man sees the truck turning, realizes they are possibly in danger, he pushes them to the sidewalk before the accident technically takes place. There is no film of the jaywalking, the only people in the street are 2 men hit by a truck. We know the truckdriver didn't see anything. So, without witnesses, were the 2 women jaywalking, technically.

I'm just messin' with ya.....:hehe:

So, without witnesses...
You forgot one thing

God damn it, The man saves lives and the police saying he's broken laws, despite his actions?

He's The Batman :brucebat:

You're basically saying that if someone is in the street, the driver has the right to plow right into them because they're jaywalking. Why don't you go do that and see who the police side with.

Jaywalking <<<< Vehicular Manslaughter

That's actually in the Uniform Vehicle Code, of which the US traffic laws reflect. Vehicles are to yield to pedestrians when they cross in the crosswalk. At other locations, pedestrians are to yield to traffic or are prohibited from crossing.

Edit: So if a person is attempting to cross without using the crosswalk, they shouldn't be surprised if takes longer to cross instead of walking to the crosswalk and waiting for the lights.

He doesn't deserve a ticket, this is a special case.

Although, having recently moved to Denver, jaywalking is much more dangerous around her than back in NYC. Could be because there're rarely any pedestrians around, but still I've never seen so many ******* drivers at once.

The bus

If the driver didn't see the men and women, you think the passengers did, who sit BEHIND the driver?

The bus isn't what hit the women. A pick-up truck did.

The driver is the one who was ticketed for jaywalking when he helped the old women.

Ooooooooh, yeah.....

Were there passengers on the bus?

Oh well, I'm too tired to play lawyer tonight.....throw the old ladies in jail....

The driver was off the bus along with the other passenger. There were may have been other passengers on the bus. So there could be witnesses to the accident on the bus.
