From the Private Islands Blog:
French explorer and adventurer Xavier Rosset is about to embark on a 300 day trip to live alone on a remote tropical island in the South Pacific. His adventures will be filmed and used for a 52 minute documentary. Xavier’s only luggage will be a Swiss army knife, machete video camera and a solar panel for charging the camera. He will spend 10 months alone on an island to develop another way of life through an exciting adventure, a return to the elemental sources. Xavier will survive alone on an island without human interference and without polluting emissions.
The ambition of this documentary is to make a reflection on our lifestyle, our current system and our relationship to nature. And the most important thing is to put the dream and emotion at the heart of adventure natural.
He will find timber to build a shelter, feed on the rudimentary fishing, plants and the harvesting of rainwater to survive.

Something seems fishy about it... no way you are survivng 300 days with just a machete and knife. Sounds interesting though.

I'm pretty sure people have done it, or similar things before...

i thought it said ireland at first.

that would be an amazing accomplishment.

I'm pretty sure... that's how people live on places like that now.

Cause people existed before technology.

Tom Hanks did it longer :o

i like how they snuck "without polluting emissions", I guess no fire for him.

He best enter the code every 108 minutes, else he's doomed.

Even these man vs wild/survivor man guys are barely able to go a week. That said, a tropical island isn't the most challenging compared to other locations. It can be done... you just better know what the hell you are doing. I am sure the guy will have every detail scouted about the island as well as weather patterns and what not before he even sets foot on the island by himself.

I bet he goes mad or gets killed by some forgotten monster that lives on the island (I really need to stop watching Lost)

he's gonna die. (or atleast abort mission.)
either by disease, or poisonous bugs, or wild man-eating animals.

yeah, he'd better have some kind of like, panic button or something.

Someone can absolutely live with only a knife of machete.
Just depends on the land around him

Something is fishy in that there is no way he isn't hiding the panic button beneath the shelter or something which would alert rescue... tha'ts what I meant when I said fishy.

Can't wait to see the results...well, I guess I gotta wait.

With so many tv shows with survival guys living off the land and all that it isnt all that impressive beyond being just another survival guy. I wanna see some chick busting out some survival skills

What is she supposed to document? Attempted contruction of a cell phone with some plant stems to call home? Not trying to offend any ladies... but its pretty laughable when you see these women on Survivor and other reality shows. I am not saying there aren't female survival experts but those types of chicks really don't work for TV marketing purposes.

man, you are coming up with some great points. you're absolutely right.
the chicks on Survivor are only good for staring at their bikini-clad bodies.
everytime i see them using that machette to cut open a coconut, i fear they're gonna chop their damn hand off.

I liked it better the first time when it was called "Into the Wild."

I found a picture of this "advenurer"...

300 days? Well, good luck for him, because you won't see my ass voluntarily go live out there for 2 weeks.
