2 episodes in and really enjoying it so far.

Yep, I think this might be my favorite HBO limit series since Watchmen. This might be Kate Winslet's best role (imo)

Let's not get too crazy here.

I dunno. It's a decent enough production. But three episodes in and I'm finding the soap opera-y twists are becoming more and more conspicuous.

Yeah, this show is great. Winslet is killing it. Mare is kind of a horrible person and that makes me love her haha. Also, this show is proving to me that Marvel is wasting Angourie Rice in the Spider-Man movies. She’s capable of so much more than she’s being given there. Evan Peters, Guy Pearce and Jean Smart are great as always.

Now I just hope Guy Pearce doesn’t turn out to be the killer, lol. I don’t really suspect him right now but since he’s Guy Pearce, I’m always worried he’s going to turn out to be the villain lol.

I thought it could be Guy Pearce, but that would seem a bit too on the nose (?) right now I'm leaning towards Frank's fiancé been the killer. I don't know why, but the way she turned her head and was listening to the argument Frank and Mare were having outside, when Mare asked if Frank would be willing to take a paternity test, leads me to believe she also might have suspected Frank to be the father.

Too early to call who the killer is at this point, but like Broadchurch, the show has already done a great job of presenting us with so many viable suspects.

So far, I'm not sure if the first missing/dead girl is even related to the murder of Erin. Could be two different killers here who each killed for different reasons. I have a feeling Mare knows a lot more about what happened to the first missing girl than she's letting on. Might have something to do with Mare's dead son, who she refuses to talk about at all. Maybe Mare doesn't want to "solve" that first murder for some reason...

It's definitely not the new Deacon, who was heavily hinted at being the killer at the end of the last episode. Too early and obvious, just like Mare's ex-husband Frank. The deacon definitely knows more about Erin, but I don't think he's the actual killer. If anything, Mare's priest cousin Dan Hastings is a more likely suspect who has been creeping in the background of the show so far.

Can't wait to see how this unfolds.

Yeah the priest is definitely a red herring. He knows something but I also wonder if he’s covering for the priest cousin.

And that’s an interesting theory about the other girl who disappeared. I’m also not convinced that she was killed (if she was even killed) by the same person who killed Erin. How long ago did Mare’s son commit suicide? For some reason I thought it predated the other girl’s disappearance but maybe not.

Agree with the priest being a red herring, right now the only two I suspect are Billy Ross and Frank's fiancé Faye.

Also I'm curious to know more about Det Zabel's cold case he apparently solved, something tells me that is a lie.

Probably, just like Broadchurch, they will give us those details in a sort of flashback.

At this point, I definitely think it’s more than one person involved given the suspected kidnapper is holding a girl for more than a year in captivity. Erin was murdered so it seems like two separate individuals and possibly a crime of passion.

Speaking of soap opera-y... The scene of Siobhan and her new gal being discovered by the ex was kinda clumsy. :ebr:

I know, right? Its been overdone. I guess it was all part of the set up for Mare to think her mom is losing it. I did love the bit about mom hiding the ice cream in the veggies bag, though. :p

The Siobhan hookup scene was totally soap opera-ish but it still made me laugh my ass off. Her ex-girlfriend’s reaction was priceless, lol.

Any theories on who our kidnapper might be? I don’t want to suspect Zabel but the past two episodes made me wonder:

1. Zabel confided in Mare that he was engaged to his high school sweetheart and then one day she just broke it off. This might have resulted in him feeling a need to take women and keep them from leaving.

2. Zabel lives at home with his uber-religious mother. Screenwriters love to create misogynistic psychopaths who became that way due to their overbearing mothers. I hope this isn’t the case here because I’m so sick of that trope.

3. The last girl that was kidnapped asked the man driving the car if he had ever done this before. That could be interpreted as asking him if he’s ever hired a sex worker before, but if the driver is a young man like Zabel, she might have been asking him if he’s a virgin.

4. Zabel is particularly fixated on Mare. Now, it may be that he admires her skill and is interested in her romantically as we have been led to believe. But he also may want to work closely with her because he is afraid she’ll crack the case. On the other hand, he might be one of those psychos that’s playing a twisted game with the investigator and wants to be close to her for those reasons.

I may be totally off base here and I hope that I am because I like Zabel. But I’m not sure.

Man,I really don't want it to be Zabel but that does sound like the type of role Evan Peters would sign up for.

Was not pleased with how this episode ended.

Not fair killing off people I like. :(

Welp, guess we can rule out Zabel as a suspect.

Been binge-watching the past few episodes. “That’s your cue to **** off” and “Good luck, she’s in one of her giant ***HOLE moods tonight!” in episode 3 made me laugh hard.

So the way this episode ended had me really scratching my head. I have some theories but given how wrong I was about Zabel I’m afraid to voice them, lol.

The episode ends in a way that makes it seem like Billy Ross is the one who had an affair with Erin, and that he killed her. In reality, it was most likely John Ross who had the affair with Erin and is the father of her baby. He killed her, whether accidentally or on purpose. Billy Ross helped him move/stage the body and cover it up (which is why he was covered in blood) for some reason, and was going to take the fall for her murder I guess.

John thinks Billy will crack under pressure, takes him fishing to potentially kill him so his secret doesn't get out. Billy found the gun in the tackle box and knows what John plans to do.

The picture from Erin's journal that she gave to the cops will show John and Erin, not Billy and Erin. Mare is on her way there to arrest Billy, but she has the wrong guy.

My other dark horse prediction is John and Lori's son Ryan having something to do with the murder itself, after finding out about his father's affair with Erin. Another good motivation for John and Billy to want to cover this up -- to protect Ryan. But that's less likely at this point.
