Marvel Preps 60-Episode Package Of Four Series & A Mini For VOD & Cable Networks
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

EXCLUSIVE: The notorious secrecy that surrounds Marvel’s projects has been heightened to a tenth degree for this one. No one would breathe a word, with rumors that everyone from top to bottom is bound by strict non-disclosure agreements, but I hear that Marvel is quietly putting together a package of four drama series and a miniseries, a total of some 60 episodes, that would be taken out to the VOD and cable space, with Netflix, Amazon and WGN America rumored as potential candidates. Feelers had been send out, and I hear there is already interest from both digital platforms and traditional cable networks to the package, which I hear is in very early stages with very little talent attached yet. Reps for Marvel refused any comment. The company has been so adamant about keeping its projects under wraps, ABC topper Paul Lee joked at TCA in August that critics who wanted to attend a screening of the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot, the only one in ages to not be distributed in advance, could expect to be asked to submit “a sample of your grandmother’s urine or the Marvel guys won’t let you in.” In addition to S.H.I.E.L.D., which was just given a full-season order, as we first reported, Marvel is developing Agent Carter, a drama series inspired by the short film Item 47 on The Avengers DVD. It is unclear whether that project is being earmarked for ABC or would be part of the VOD/cable package. Committing to 60 episodes off the bat is a big undertaking for a network/digital service but would make sense for outlets new to scripted programming that are looking to quickly build up a slate and want to capitalize on the Marvel brand.
Ehh... the "very little talent involved" part makes me side-eye this a bit.

And they screwed up saying the Agent Carter series in the works is based on the Item 47 short film. :whatever:

Sounds awesome though, hope some good places pick this stuff up. I can never get enough Marvel. With this and the Marvel Universe LIVE! tour they really are trying to take over the world. I just hope they don't burn everyone out with market over-saturation. But considering everyone likes heroes I don't see that happening

The idea of selling this stuff with the possibility of no writer being attached doesn't sit well with me.

Honestly, I don't care about any more Marvel shows. I don't want to see Agent Carter. Agents of Shield is already pretty close to losing me. I just don't want to watch a show about the normal people in a superhero universe. That is boring. Of course, It doesn't help that every character on Agents of Shield is a cliche procedural archetype, but that is neither here nor there. Maybe future shows will do it better.

These are the shows I'd most likely go with:

Punisher

Daredevil

Heroes for Hire

Dr. Strange

The first three could work great together and offer a lot of cross over potential. I for one would love a crossover event were the Kingpin hires the Heroes for hire to protect him from the Punisher and Daredevil gets caught in the crossfire.

Dr. Strange could be a great tv series. Since Marvel doesn't seem to want magic on the big screen this would allow them to use the character to his full potential.

I doubt about Dr.Strange, the film seems to be too close to the oficial Green light

I still have my doubts about them actually making a Dr. Strange film since it would be a big break from their "there is no magic" rule. I´ll admit that I´d rather see a film but a tv series could also be great and could offer a completely different kind of series from most of the other superheroes.

Feige seems very excited about the film, and it's been in development for as long as Guardians of the Galaxy, if not more. All the information we get from inside Marvel Studios also seems to indicate it being just around the corner, probably as part of the Phase III line-up

Conceptually, I am excited about the expansion of the MCU's television presence: they could build up the street-level heroes and/or try to introduce some B and C list characters from the pantheon who have not been adapted to live action yet. However, my faith about the execution is not as strong: I worry that the shows will not be able to have a serious tone, due to the editorial pull for horrible humor (see Agents of SHIELD.) By no means am I calling for a program as gritty as X-Force, but would like to see something on the spectrum close to Arrow: real human drama, comic book menace, and tension released by the injection of humor...not humor occasionally interrupted by a fleeting glimpse of seriousness.

Make no mistake: I love Agents of SHIELD. However, I recognize it for what it is: a live action iteration of a Saturday morning cartoon. It's not a gritty procedural, but more in line with another one of Marvel's properties: Men in Black. If anything, I am calling for some diversity with the line; I recognize that humor is essential part of the Marvel brand, but seriousness as well (some of the best minis/collected series they have released have both feet in the mature realm: Kraven's Last Hunt, Ultimates 1-2 (which was balanced with dry humor,) Schism, DOFP, and so on.

If we get 4 new shows and a mini my picks in order would be

1. Heroes For Hire
2. DD
3. Punisher
4. Moon Knight
Mini - Marvel Knights crossover

Calm down.

It said that it has very little talent attached yet.

Meaning the cast, list of showrunners and producers, etc have not yet been rounded out.

Its in the very early stages.

As far as these projects go, I expect that Daredevil, The Punisher (possibly with Thomas Jane attached), Heroes for Hire, and Jessica Drew will be the 4 shows, and Agent Carter/Some 1940s set show will be the Miniseries

Alternatives to the 4 shows being She-Hulk, Ghost Rider and The Runaways.

What ever happened to the new live action Hulk show?

I would like a Blade show, but I'm not to confident in the quality it would be after the last attempt.

Truth be told, I feel the artistic/economic bubble for vampire media burst a while ago...

It's because as I said before Marvel's TV shows are going to have to rely on their movie world and hope that people will turn in despite the fact that you may never see any of the main Marvel heroes pop up. They should have done like DC and kept it two separate worlds that way they can add more heroes.

I think a Cloak & Dagger show would be pretty cool. I never really got into their comic stories but they have the potential to make an entertaining series.

A Punisher mini-series with Thomas Jane on Netflix based on "Welcome Back, Frank." would be amazing.

Shouldn't they work on S.H.I.E.L.D more before giving the go ahead for four more shows?!

See we say it's Marvel but it's really the all powerful and ever money hungry house of mouse that see's Marvel for the cash cow it is and is intent on milking every penny they can out of it. I wonder when the heroes will start popping up at the parks since Universal's Islands of Adventure has the rights to the Marvel heroes as it stands right now

Why do people immediately start blaming Disney?! Unless I missed something, from all indications it looks like Disney has pretty much let Marvel Studio's run on their own with little control or manipulation - at least that's how Feige and others seem to play it up.

This whole putting Marvel Studio's on some untouchable pedestal as if they can never do any wrong is cray cray. They are a movie studio in it for the money just as much as any other.

Disney has allowed Pixar to do its own thing, so why should the same not be said for Marvel?
