Turns out, as well as having advanced technology at his disposal, The Mandarin's also a generic asian martial artist/magician badass.


...that's something I just noticed. Blending technology and military might with sorcery is kind of a thing with some Marvel Villains, isn't it? Doom and The Mandarin both fit that mold, albeit different in that the magic side reflects their cultural backgrounds (Pagan and pseudo Kabballah style mysticism for Doom, Chinese mysticism and spirituality for The mandarin).

You also have to remember the storyline in Legion of Super Heroes were the newly elected president of the UP was revealed to be Ra's Al Ghul, only after he had enacted his plan to reshape the world in his image using flying heat vision-y alien robots, after which he would proceed to do so with the rest of the galaxy, and took on about five or six Legionnaires armed with nothing but a stolen flight ring and proceeded to beat all of them with kung fu. After I read that, I understood what sex must be like.

my first experience with mandarin was from the 90's iron man cartoon, which was terrible. so i'm going to judge him off of that, which means there is no redemption for him

Lix: that's rough. My first comic ever was an issue of iron man with mandarin as the villian, he was epically badass in that he used everything against tony and throughly kicked his ass.

^^^I cannot defend his aptitude for acting, but I've always thought that Terry Crews looked more the part of Cage. He is,of course, more physically imposing than the smallish Gibson...
