Publisher Electronic Arts has confirmed that action role-playing game Mass Effect 2 will be released in “early” 2010, but has so far only confirmed the title for the Xbox 360 and PC.

The first Mass Effect was released in late 2007 as an Xbox 360 exclusive and ported to the PC later the next year. Developer BioWare Corp. always intended the game to be the first part in a trilogy, and a spring 2010 release for the next title has been widely expected by fans for some time.

However, following EA’s acquisition of BioWare in January 2008, the second game was widely assumed to be a multiplatform release -- but EA's announcement mentions only the PC and Xbox 360 platforms.

Although the importing of saved data from the original Xbox 360 or PC games into the sequel could somewhat limit the appeal of a PlayStation 3 version of Mass Effect 2, there are no known contractual reasons as to why the series would remain exclusive to the Xbox 360 on consoles.

BioWare recently announced it was forming a new studio group with EA Montreal to support its existing Mass Effect 2 development team in Edmonton, Canada. Few details of the new game have been released, with a recent teaser trailer revealing little new plot or gameplay information.

Have to say I'm fairly surprised. Whether or not the PS3 got the first or not doesn't matter as I was more then sure they would see they could make more cash with a PS3 verison, as well.

Too bad really. I would've probably gotten the game on the 360 anyway, mostly since I had already bought the first one on it, but it sucks the PS3-only community will miss out on such a frantastic franchise.

Hopefully a PS3 version will see light of day despite this

Eh, it's the nature of the business. I just recently read an article how 360 lacks franchises while PS3 lacks exclusives.

I´m not surprised, in fact, i was expecting it to continue being an exclusive, it would be extremely weird if Microsoft wouldn´t fight for it.
Mass Effect was announced as a trilogy for the 360 way before EA bought Bioware, so, it would have been very wrong for Microsoft to let it go, Bioware to change their hearts and EA to care only for money.

Yes, it´s an amazing franchise that the PS3 owners would love, but still, things are what they are, exclusives are part of the business.
Glad to know that it´s not all about the money, and that EA is changing for the best (which i knew it would since Riccitiello was back on the company, and last year showed us that) and integrity is more important then the mighty buck.

Between this, Lost and Damned, Castle Crashers, the Fallout DLC, yeesh I am glad I didn't go with a PS3. Even though I've had 2 360s crash on me, I'd be pretty sad on the other side looking in.

As someone who has both a PS3 and a 360, the only way I'd care about Mass Effect 2 on PS3 is if they also ported the first one over so you could import the save data like you will be able to on the 360 version.

Make sure you watch Gametrailers this Friday March 27 on Spike TV at 10 pm PST

They discuss BioWare, Dragon Age Origins and Mass Effect 2 featuring interviews with Ray Muzyka, Dan Tudge and Casey Hudson

cool stuff... although i read on IGN.com its coming out in 2009. thats prob incorrect.

Im gonna be PISSED if Commander Shepard is dead. I want my character from mass effect in all 3.

Well, Bioware has Dragon Origins coming out this year. I really doubt they would release two huge games in one year

You're on PSN?

What's you PSN ID?

Nice.

Let's see if there's another b.s. controversy over ME2 being "porn" again or something.

God, people are so stupid.

i love how people complained about 1 buttcrack. its rated M. IMO theres much worse than a buttcrack out there, hell i thought the fairies in Zelda: Ocarina were worse than the sex scene in ME. i mean comon Zelda is meant for like 12 and up, and the fairy looked like a straight ****e with gigantic boobs. i found that much worse.

i kinda hope they get even more graphic in ME2 just to start more controversy, more controversy = higher sales.

jeez now people say March 31 2010.

figure it out Bioware!

"There's a few bigger buckets of things we're working on. One of them is the intensity of the action, amping that up so people will see this as a shooter RPG…It's going to feel like shooter fans are going to have a great experience…"

Eh...I don't like the sound of this. I thought the shooting was very well done in Mass Effect and thought that it was plenty "intense" enough as well. Instead of trying to cater to shooter fans with an RPG, they should maybe...oh, I don't know...cater to RPG fans with an RPG? And if shooter fans want a great experience perhaps they should play a great shooter?

No...no, what am I thinking? Those ideas make far too much sense.

Dude, it's BioWare. They've never made a shallow RPG in their entire history. I'm sure they'll deliver on the RPG elements; they'll just have improved shooter elements on top of that.

I kindly direct you to Sonic Chronicles.

Like said, I thought the shooting and action in Mass Effect was great. Unless they want to make Make ME2 more of a shooter and less of an RPG, what is there to improve upon?

I don't know, I'm not a developer and I haven't played ME in months, so I can't even remember what a lot of the shooting was like. I just think it's a bit of a leap to go from "we want to improve the shooting aspects" to "we're going to totally nerf the RPG aspects." Maybe they're just talking about more varied weapons like traditional shooters instead of the strict weapon class divisions we saw in ME1.

Everyone just needs to cash a check once in a while....

the shooting elements could be a bit more fluid but I have no major gripes....Im on my 5th or 6th playthrough right now
