It's terrible that this kind of thing keeps happening. Why have there been so many mass shootings in the past few years? We've had thousands of years of human history (and hundreds of years of American history), and it seems like only just recently people feel the need to mass-murder innocent people. (I'm not saying people haven't done terrible things to each-other throughout history, but most of those have clear motivations at least. This just seems like killing for the sake of killing.)

Well, any idiot with an AR-15 can wipe out a room full of people. That was practically impossible until recently. Before the widespread availability of semiautomatics, you would either have to create a bomb, or hijack a plane to accomplish that.

I hope they find some sort of note explaining why the shooter felt he had to do this. Not that it excuses it, but there is still a frustration with the Vegas shooter as what makes a person feel the need to do something like this.

I just watched a show (Active Shooter) where a mentally ill person denied a gun permit managed to buy all the seperate parts online and assembled an automatic weapon himself. People who want to do something like this hard enough will find a way in spite of the laws.

At least with Sandy Hook, the twisted ideology of the god+guns crowd could mentally justify their lack of effective outrage it because it was a secular public school for northern elites. It would take something like an evangelical church in a red state with mostly white victims and children to really test their resolve.
