Okay, this could be unsubstantiated balderdash..........but if it isn't my reaction is "YES ! YES ! YES !"

I see Vaughn as a director who may not be a darling of the critics (although his films have scored between 75-86% on RT) but makes films that audiences can enjoy - in fact in interviews he's stated that his goal in filmmaking is to create a 2 hour escapist experience. The guy understands his audience, and I feel that he really understands the superhero genre (as XMFC suggests)

Personally, I've loved all his films (well, I liked Layer Cake, but loved all the rest).

Vaughn and Cavill have previously collaborated, and if you've seen interviews with Cavill, he's a funny guy - something that Vaughn could capitalize on and
bring some much needed humour and a sense of joy back to the Man of Steel.

Thoughts anyone ?

Vaughan would be a great choice for Superman. I think he can be the guy who finally allows Cavill to fulfill his huge potential as Superman.

I wholeheartedly concur with your assessment Sir !

Yes! But yea I've always been impressed with Vaughan. He makes fun movies with strong characters. I really like how he adapted Kick Ass, making it less cynical and mean spirited but still kinda self aware.

Exactly, you still care about Vaughn's characters but they don't wallow in angst - plus he manages to blend the everyday with the fantastic really well (e.g. Eggsy's depressing council estate origins with the super-spy world of ridiculous violence and fantastic gadgetry).

Vaughn toned down the violence in Kick Ass significantly - I strongly believe that the Mark Millar adaptations he's done have been successful due to Vaughn's approach, which tones down the misanthropic and lurid material (of course Vaughn's adaptations have been a lot more faithful to Millar's work than others - I'm thinking of Logan (Old Man Logan) Civil War and Wanted).

I think he'd be perfect for a new Superman film, but he notoriously does not like working under a typical studio system and so that MAY not be a good 'omen' but his creativity, imagination with shot selection and his grasp of action would suit Superman and his films, most importantly have 'heart'.

Weirdly if I did do Superman—and I made the mistake of telling someone yesterday I have spoken about it and then wallop (laughs)—I think my main take would be, it’s really boring but make a Superman film. I just don’t feel a proper Superman—I think Donner did it to perfection for that time. Just doing the modern—I wanna do a modern version of the Donner [version]. Go back to the source material… For me Superman is color, feel-good, heroic. He’s a beacon of light in darkness. And that’s what I think Superman should be.

I've been to a couple boards today and already I'm seeing people misreading the Donner comment as "Aagh, Superman Returns 2.0! Kill it! KILL IT!!!". It's hilarious.

I think closer to the truth is that it sounds like he wants to do a version of Superman that's more respectful to the general tone of the character that everybody is familiar with, instead of one made by someone who'd clearly rather be making a Batman movie. Now that they've finally done the Death and Return, hopefully WB's got that rancid crap out of its system once and for all.

The only movie by him I liked was First Class. He's only a slight improvement from Snyder.
