The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that we will never be told how Matt survived Midland Circle or how he ended up in the convent. That's certainly a big mystery, given that there was no other apparent way out of the pit and he was over 400 feet below the streets. But I feel that we won't ever learn how Matt survived Midland Circle, and maybe neither will Matt himself. I dunno, I just feel like they wouldn't be able to go into the details of how Matt survived without bogging down the start of Daredevil season 3. And with the number of plots that will be happening in season 3 (Matt and Karen, Foggy and Marci, the FBI, Fisk and Vanessa, and more), the writers probably want to get the main plot going as opposed to resolve The Defenders climax.
As I see it, I think Daredevil season 3 will have Matt start in the convent, like in the last shot of him in The Defenders. They'll have him connect with his mother as he recovers, and then he'll reveal that he's alive to Karen and/or Foggy by the end of the first episode/start of the second. That way, Matt can jump right into Daredevil activities and taking on Fisk and his goons. In fact, I think the only Midland Circle plot point that will have to be resolved in Daredevil season 3 is the fate of Matt's costume, whether it survived the collapse or he'll need to pay a visit to Melvin Potter to get a new suit.
