Mermaid 2 sells 4 million DVD's in a week!! What obout X3???

the source of the article is buena vista home entertainment, inc. (the distributor of disney dvds) so the fact that it makes no mention of x3 has nothing to do with the sales performance of the x-men dvds.

plus, with the multiple versions, it could take longer to compile the data, while the little mermaid just had one edition.

i picked up mermaid when i picked up x-men

Its made 460 million at the box office and has been selling well on dvd from what i've seen. I don't understand your point antariksh.

I am pretty damn sure sales of X3 might be way less then X2 and just a bit more than mermaid that is why they haven't anounced anything yet.

Well i guess X4 is officially a DREAM.
Uh...the X3 dvd sold more copies its first week than the Mermaid. The X3 dvd is selling strong and shows that people liked the movie and are willing to buy it to watch it over and over. I remember when I was arguing a few months back on here with some posters(who happened to hate X3) and I said the dvd will sell a lot of copies because a lot of people liked this movie...more so than they want to think. It is doing good and so is the Mermaid.

What DVD thread? The only thing I've seen discussed in any of them since the movie's release are the various deleted scenes. Am I missing something?

Still #3 on Amazon, so I'm sure it's doing fine.

That was article was a press release from Buena Vista, I read it at work today.

And "The Little Mermaid" is on my Christmas list. I love that movie!

Maybe it's just me, but what is the big deal about the Little Mermaid? I always found Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, Aladdin, Pinocchio, Robin Hood, Sleeping Beauty, and Bambi to be much better Disney films.

But again, that's just my opinion.

lol,

my friend bought it, but only because she wanted to complete the set :).

I bought The Little Mermaid instead of X3 when i went to the store, i'm waiting for the 2 disc like everyone else...

Little Mermaid was the first of the *new* generation of animated Disney films, so it was a big deal when it first came out. It got amazing reviews and was even selling out shows at night when there were virtually no kids in the audience. It was also the first Alan Menken/Howard Ashman musical collaboration--they went on to do the music for Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast, although Ashman died before he finished Aladdin.

Musically, it's probably my favorite, although I loved that whole series of animated musicals. They're actually planning a stage version Little Mermaid to open on Broadway eventually.

But my favorite Disney movie is still Mary Poppins. :)

Well, looks like X3 sold 5 million copies in its first week, that is definitey very good. X2 has sold around 6 million copies on dvd. So X3 will beat X2 in dvd sales and it could be by a wide margin.

u kidding me X2 sold only that many copies of DVD in total.

Hell F4 has sold 6 million+ copies upto this date. I am sure X2 sold 10+ million.

Whatever i cannot wait for tommorrow when it will be officially announced.

Well, I frequent the box office mojo site a great deal and I remember a year after it was released nielson had released the sales for that year and X2 had only sold a little over 5 million. So at the max it is probably at close to 7 now but the exact number isn't known. X3 is definitely going to pass X2 considering it's very strong first week sales.

Ahh, here it is. For 2003, X2 sold 5.3 million copies and was number 14 in the top 20 biggest sellers for 2003. That means that X3 sold almost as many copies in its first week as X2 did for the year 2003. Now remember, everyone who wants the movie rushes out in its first few months on dvd and then sales drop off considerably. So at max X2 may have reached close to 7, but I don't see it being more than that. Now with the trilogy pack, it will probably pass 7 mil.

http://www.leesmovieinfo.net/Video-Sales.php?type=3&week_id=144&limit=54

What's sad is that xXx was one space above X2 for 2003...now that is just sad. lol. I mean, xXx? While mildly entertaining on a popcorn level it was not the quality of X2.

Solid stand for 'X-Men' DVD sales

By Thomas K. Arnold

20th Century Fox's "X-Men: The Last Stand" and Buena Vista's "The Little Mermaid" continued their strong first-day sales momentum, selling 5 million and 4 million units, respectively, their first week in stores, studio sources said.

That led to a one-two finish on the national DVD sales chart for the week ending Oct. 8 and, according to observers, should mitigate fears among some big retailers that digital downloads are eating into DVD sales. Both titles achieved their DVD success despite being readily available, at lower prices, through online download services.

Sales were so strong for both titles that the No. 3 DVD on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert Sales chart, the previous week's chart-topper "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift," sold one-tenth as many copies during the week as "X-Men."

Fox's "The X-Men Trilogy Pack," consisting of all three films in the franchise, debuted at No. 4.

"X-Men" also stormed to the top of Home Media Retailing's video rental chart its first week out, generating an estimated $10.5 million in rental revenue. Last week's top renter, Warner's "The Lake House," slipped to No. 2, earning an additional $6.3 million to bring its two-week rental take to $13.6 million, or more than 25% of its theatrical earnings.

Fox's "Thank You for Smoking" debuted at No. 3 in the rental chart, with $6.2 million. The satirical comedy, which grossed $24.8 million at the boxoffice, debuted at No. 6 on First Alert.

Nice!

I agree with you on Lion King and Aladdin... but The Little Mermaid was also always one of my favorite Disney cartoons. Those 3 are my favorites. I own all 3 (plus Lilo & Stitch) and I feel my Disney collection is complete.

I think a lot of people enjoyed the living hell out of X3 moreso than the first 2 films, although you wouldn't know that by staying here in GEEKLAND. Based on what you people were saying, it was going to be a flop across the board (we have the archive threads to prove it), and yet that didn't happen. Well, it did to Superman Returns, thanks Singer.:p

I've conducted polls in the past, and X3 was always the highest in terms of which film in the trilogy people preferred most. I think the general public prefer X3 because it has more action, etc. Most die-hard fans prefer X2 though. Me, I like all three films equally, lol. I love X1/X2 for the drama, and smarts, but I love X3 for the action, fun, and chaos. It all equals out for me. :p

Good number, and we might see Wolverine sooner, rather than later!

I just flat out like X3 the best, X1 next and X2 last, and I'm glad X3 is doing beyond well...and making haters angrier.;)

Yup!

X-Men and X2 (the first one particularly) gave us the character, and gave us the reasons to want to feel for these characters. X-Men: The Last Stand gave us the action we've so been craving.

I love Singer's films, and the actions sequences we did get were badass for the most part (Nightcrawler's White House assault, Magneto's prison break, Storm's tornado fury, Stryker attacking the mansion), but it just wasn't quite enough. It was too isolated.

In terms of action, X-Men: The Last Stand was freaking balls to the wall. I can better imagine X-Men: The Last Stand coming out of X-Men Legends or something like that, than I can for the first 2.

But except for a couple characters, and some key points, the movie lacked the character and emotion of the first 2. So the first 2 definatley have the advantage in the character department, and at the end of the day, the character development is much more important than balls to the wall action.

But considering we had 2 movies of character development, the balls to the wall action was a nice payoff, because we already know who these characters are and why we should care for them.

I fully agree with you. Each movie offers something that the other 2 don't.

X-Men has character development and emotion.

X2 has very intelligently stylistic sequences (Magneto's non-chalant prison escape). It just comes off as much more elegant than the others.

X-Men: The Last Stand has the epic final battle, the team going into battle together, and the explosiveness.
