Messageboard Games, Post Count Boosters or Inane Needless Threads?

Like Darthphere said, there's a difference between Lounges and Off Topic discussion that every thread usually does. And if and when I do post in the Lounge, it's topical, and I'm responding to something someone said.

Yet can you point out where I said that it was turning into a lounge? I clearly said that you had a lounge mentality, therefore making you no more different than those who do choose to post in them. Short posts that mean pretty much nothing or add nothing to the topic. Wouldn't they also be considered post count boosters once more?

The threads you choose to slam follow the original post and never stray off topic. The topic of choice is to play the games and enjoy them. Your topic of choice here was to ask if they were useless. I'm simply offering my opinion on it but clearly that can't be accepted.

That's reaching.

It's ok... I didn't expect you to understand anyway

That's not a conversation. That's not a back and forth other carrying on a thread. That's just one long inordinate post broken up into 20,000 posts.

One person speaks through songs or movies, the other answers. Therefore a conversation exists between those people. Once again, I honestly don't expect you to understand this logic as you are either ignorant or just don't care about the words others have to speak.

Hypocrite much?

Much like yourself.

Um, examples? Cause that's news to me.

I think it would be needless for me to go looking for some examples to show you as you wouldn't see it through my eyes. To you, they're good fun things to do, to me... well you know what I think already. Just like you think the things I do are needless.

How am I not putting up because I don't think I need to post in your 5 letter thread?

Did I, at any point in this thread, specifically ask you to post in the 5 letter thread. I said that you could try one of those threads before knocking them. Please get your facts straight before speaking.

And I have pointed out in this thread, that even though I ridicule the lounge mostly because of the "hi, hi, bye, bye" type posts, it's still one up on the gaming threads. And my posts are always in response to somebody else, or made to make a point.

I'm just chose to disagree that:

I challenge you to try those threads for one whole week. Continuously posting in conversation with someone intelligent in those threads, e.g. Sensi, Spideyville, borax or myself. Then using the means provided based on the thread you choose, carry out a fully fledged conversation with that person. I don't mean just once a day either. I want you to constantly post in the threads without using baby words and see how you fare then.
That those type of threads are some sort of elevated higher form of posts and more meaningful conversations. You make it sound like it's the discussion of cold fusion or some sort of political debate.

It's ok... I didn't expect you to understand anyway
Adorable.

No I understood what you said, just it's a reach that the intent of the original poster was to find some sort of kinship with someone else because of their dress attire.

One person speaks through songs or movies, the other answers. Therefore a conversation exists between those people. Once again, I honestly don't expect you to understand this logic as you are either ignorant or just don't care about the words others have to speak.
Uh, that's still not a conversation. A word association thread isn't a conversation, that's my point. It's just poster after poster connecting words.

Much like yourself.
So you admit you're a hypocrite?

I think it would be needless for me to go looking for some examples to show you as you wouldn't see it through my eyes. To you, they're good fun things to do, to me... well you know what I think already. Just like you think the things I do are needless.
= I can't find anything or I'm too lazy to put effort into finding examples to back up my theories. :

Did I, at any point in this thread, specifically ask you to post in the 5 letter thread. I said that you could try one of those threads before knocking them. Please get your facts straight before speaking.
Now who's twisting words, you said to post in these threads to give me an insight of how non-inane those threads are. Last time I checked the 5 letter game is one of those threads.

What Are You Wearing now, is a little different than the Female thread, or the Youtube thread. You're not gaining any real insight into posters here?

It allows others to gain the insight of how people prefer to dress. Maybe, just maybe, there is someone on the hype with the same style as another. What you wear is pretty much your social identity, therefore the thread offers something to those that choose to post in it

That's reaching.

My thread was called out :ninja:

I will never understand why people cant just enjoy whatever it is they enjoy without the constant backlash from other people. I know people who think half the things i do are pointless or stupid. It doesnt stop from doing them or liking them. I see this place as a community and in my eyes a community is a place where 2 or more people who share the same interest and ideas of fun games can come together and hang out. Why the incessant need for people to come by and say what your doing is stupid and pointless so dont do it or ask why they are doing it , is beyond me. Let people just be themselves and have fun doing whatever it is that they do. I myself take part in the actor-movie-actor "game" here. It has nothing to do with upping my post count or anything. For me its just a fun game and i get to test my knowledge of movie trivia with limited, if any, use of IMDB. Its fun, i like it, you may think its stupid repetitive and asinine(sp?) but i enjoy it and will continue to play no matter what peoples thoughts are. Why cant people enjoy things they like in peace? Whats so wrong with that?

There must be order.

I have a vision for SHH.

A new world order if you will.

In a perfect world, I'd have disciplinary action brought against you right now.

But, I also have to get a vote of no confidence in some of the Admins before I ascend the ranks here.

And I have pointed out in this thread, that even though I ridicule the lounge mostly because of the "hi, hi, bye, bye" type posts, it's still one up on the gaming threads. And my posts are always in response to somebody else, or made to make a point.

The lounges aren't something that I participate in personally but I can see why people would like it. If you walk into a bar and you see some friends, you would walk over to them and say Hi. When you're leaving, you make the point of saying Bye. Those who post in the lounges are just in a virtual surrounding where their friends just happen to be. It's just simple human nature and the outlet is provided for them to do so.

I'm just chose to disagree that:

That those type of threads are some sort of elevated higher form of posts and more meaningful conversations. You make it sound like it's the discussion of cold fusion or some sort of political debate.

If that's how I want them to be then so be it. I get enjoyment out of posting in those threads just like others get their enjoyment out of the lounges, scientific discussions or politics etc. The posts still have meaning for those involved. Even if people like yourself can't see it.

Adorable.

No I understood what you said, just it's a reach that the intent of the original poster was to find some sort of kinship with someone else because of their dress attire.

This is the internet. We will never know the true meaning of threads.

Uh, that's still not a conversation. A word association thread isn't a conversation, that's my point. It's just poster after poster connecting words.

I can agree with you to an extent on the word association thread. I too can't see the genuine advantage of posting word after word. However, I mention nothing about the word association in the section of post you quoted. All I'm saying is that using the lyrics or quotes a conversation is established. It might not be in the traditional sense of a conversation but it still exists. Not everyone is interested in the little number under their name.

So you admit you're a hypocrite?

Nope

= I can't find anything or I'm too lazy to put effort into finding examples to back up my theories.

I'm glad you think that highly of yourself. But when someone thinks that they're all high and mighty in such a way that they can practically tell people how they're names should be written, it's clear that you need the attention.

Now who's twisting words, you said to post in these threads to give me an insight of how non-inane those threads are. Last time I checked the 5 letter game is one of those threads.

That's a nice twist on my words. Once again the main thing about my post was that I challened you to try the threads. You refused so the jury's still out on whether you can call them inane or not. All I'm saying is that you shouldn't knock something if you're not willing to try it.

Yes, you made a game thread but that's not being knocked in your original post because you made it. Plain and simple.

Just curious was that directed at me?

You don't need power, you'd be a tyrant.:o

It's cute when you get condescending. So basically you get enjoyment with only relating to other posters in short concise answers who's only point is the next post where no constructive conversation takes place.

This is the internet. We will never know the true meaning of threads.
Where I can ask Nirvana who just posted in this thread.

Now you seem to be backtracking on what you previously said. I lumped all these threads together, so now what some are like that and some aren't?

Then I'm obviously not one either. :o

I'm glad you think that highly of yourself. But when someone thinks that they're all high and mighty in such a way that they can practically tell people how they're names should be written, it's clear that you need the attention.
Well I was voted Best Male Poster on SHH as well as It Boy consecutively over the past few years. I don't like to brag and if you'd like I can show you my awards.

It's funny, I noticed this is the 2nd time someone posted a "joke thread" and you take it all seriously.

First one being this. Hence some of the people kinda ridiculing you.

My Etiquette thread was initially a joke just like CMil.16's Prejudice against Numbers, however some people took it as an opportunity to change their usernames. 6 to 7 people actually. :o Which should show you my ego does not know any bounds.

Well, I could in essence request it be deleted but the fact that I posted in like .3% of it show show I just got tired and bored and would rather post in other threads with more meaning, which brings me back full circle to the word association and 5 letter word games. I rather post in threads that actually do something instead of just waiting on the next poster to post a continuation to keep a game going.

I'm not talking about Survivor, Hype Idol or games of that nature.

Yeah, you better not be. :cmad:

Honestly:

Word Association
Fiver Letter Thread - Part 2
You Talking to Me? Movie Banter v2.0
Ask a Question Above, Get an Answer Below
Epic Conversations - Song Lyric Banter

I badmouth the Lounges but is there anything useful that can be learned from these threads?

And if you are taking entertainment from figuring out 5 letters into a sentence maybe you should reevaluate your priorities.

Or just tell me the truth, is it just a way to boost your post count?

I think, for most cases, it's the latter. And I wouldn't mind those threads as much if the people who participate in them did so in other threads where they'd contribute to an actual discussion - but the majority of them don't. :down

OK, OK... now you have me really worried about you. First of all... I posted that in 2006. I now must wonder... what your fascination is with me that you can remember all of my posts and exactly where I put them. Second point of this is that you obviously can't see the intended humour in that post that you have brought to my attention.

For someone to remember what I posted so long ago, when I barely posted at all, is starting to freak me out. Is there something you would like to tell us all? I don't know about you but I sure as hell am wondering about you now.

For those wondering about this so called serious post I made:

What should I do?

I think you're name really says it all.... I guess you're "lacking" in certain areas and she just can't get the satisfaction she needs without using a microscope to see what she's doing

I wouldn't be surprised that you could find a recent post of mine but in proving your point you go back to 2006.

I'm sorry but that's just crazy. I think I'll go now and stick to the threads that you deem needless and inane... they provide entertainment to many and once more it's not all about how many posts you can get. There was something a few months ago with a few options and moving all the game threads to a forum of their own, where posts didn't count was a possibility and I was all for it. But right now I think they're fine right where they are.

Ding, ding, ding. I didn't state that in my original post, I really should have. But I must commend kingman for actualling posting in this thread that's a discussion considering looking up his posts,

Searching his name 17 or so out 25 on the first page is either a game, or what was the last "Insert game, movie, trailer" Seriously trailer? What was the last trailer you saw? Hahahaha

kingman, why don't you use this thread to reevaluate some of the threads you post in. You can still post in them but why not try posting in a thread where there's more than 5 words.

Then jump into my username thread because well, you know.

*extends olive branch*

Actually I found that today because I was searching if you posted in any other threads outside the gaming ones.

I could probably find one probably more easily, I'd just have to look in the non gaming threads.

Many? LOL.

Seriously, what like 25 people? Hahahaha

Like I said, I searched your username, but if you want me to be honest, yeah I remember that post because you derailed the comedy train.

I think the thing about people like myself is that we don't contribute to discussions that we have no opinion on. If and when the opportunity presents itself then people will voice their opinions. If that time doesn't come we simply spend our time posting in the "game" threads.

So judging from your posts, you essentially have no opinion on anything that's not a game or a video game?

Actually I found that today because I was searching if you posted in any other threads outside the gaming ones.

I post in movies and TV when the mood strikes me.

Like I said, I searched your username, but if you want me to be honest, yeah I remember that post because you derailed the comedy train.

Clearly you just don't understand my humour. I would still at least like to see you try the threads for a while though.

How is this thread more meaningful than a game thread?

So judging from your posts, you essentially have no opinion on anything that's not a game or a video game?

As I have said, I post my opinions when the opportunity presents itself. If I have nothing to say on something, I'll simply read it and move on.

I don't care what someone on a predominantly male messageboard is wearing. I don't care what's the last trailer they watched or what they ate a few hours ago.

Would it hurt me to try? Honestly yeah, cause it'd make me go against what I've stated that I stand behind every post I ever made, and I can't honestly stand behind those posts. :down

As I have said, I post my opinions when the opportunity presents itself. If I have nothing to say on something, I'll simply read it and move on.
All I'm doing is posting my opinion on what I think of the gaming threads.

That's where my point comes in, you say the things about the threads but you don't try them. Maybe you've never tried them and never will, which leads to your opinion being one based on thoughts alone. Not from your experiences of something. That's all.
