Midway developer endorses PS3 as lead platform

Of course everygame has flaws, but the one who get 9.8-10 are so close to being perfect that you have to LOOK for something wrong, as opposed to noticing it on your first or second playthrough. For example: RE4 rated so high becuase what it did right was so close to gaming perfection that the semi-serious flaws, like a mediocre story, no ability to move when firing a weapon or even slashing with your knife, and no ability to actually change weapons in game, the environments, mix of 85% action and 15% horror was near perfect, the camera was total genius and has already been copied in several high profile games, like Gears, Dark Sector, and Fallout 3, to name a few. And for the most part the enemies and bosses were great too, along with the selection of weapons and the ability to upgrade the in many different ways. All the flaws were off in the background.

Yet another developer comes out and says that developing multiplatform games for the Playstation 3 isn't that bad and that most publishers are just simply lazy:

It's been a common excuse for underwhelming early PS3 releases, but according to Infinity Ward, the developer of the Call of Duty series, developing the game on the PlayStation 3 was easy.

Many a developer has moaned at the complexity of the code behind sony's next-gen console, but there were no problems for Infinity Ward as they worked on the newly released Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

They put their success down to the fact that they do not dedicated more energy to one platform - and in fact spread out resources and split up teams to work on the game across the different platforms.

Prioritising one console over the other has resulted in many games being released earlier on one console, and later on another - with the PS3 release of certain games often coming after the Xbox 360 release.

The developer stated, “There’s obviously some problem with all the delays we’re witnessing. I think it’s just down to allocation of resources. I think maybe people feel that they’re resource strapped and feel a little bit more comfortable working on the Xbox 360 as it’s been out a little longer [than the PS3].”

“We haven’t had any problems [with PS3] and that’s probably because of our development philosophy. We develop content-agnostic so we don’t have a lead platform. We have a team working on each of the different versions and everyone else forms a team who makes the content platform agnostic.”

If you actually read what's quoted instead of the author's editorial bs, it's clear that what he's really saying is that developing on the PS3 is easier once you decide to throw out-of-proportion resources at it.

To put it in layman's terms:

They decided not to make the Xbox 360 version as the lead platform to develop this game and actually take the time to learn and work with the Playstation 3 and were able to make a version of a multiplatform game that is equal to the Xbox 360 version.

I think you might have a slight confirmation bias going on after reading the added comments of the author, because that information really isn't present in what the developer said. What he has stated is that it's an issue of resource allocation, which really, is nothing new - the ps3 requires more resources than the other 3 development platforms to achieve the same results. That's why he's saying that the delays, which he apparently sees as evidence of a problem, are probably a result of developers feeling strapped for resources. They just don't have the man power to throw at the ps3's poor development environment, a disadvantage that a larger developer like IW with EA's financial backing doesn't share. It has nothing to do with developers just deciding to not even try on the PS3, and then IW comes along and tries and viola, problem solved.

twice the effort, same result

AWESOME!

Of course it's going to be more effort. Developing for the Xbox 360 is easier because it's more familiar, been out longer, and is like developing for a PC. It's probably why we're seeing PC centric developers like John Carmack and Gabe Newell prefer developing for the Xbox 360.

So the obvious result is take the time to learn the Playstation 3 and it'll be easier to develop for. We're seeing Infinity Ward do this. We're seeing Bethesda doing this. We're seeing Epic doing this. We're seeing Team Ninja doing this. We're probably going to see other developers do this and we're going to see better quality products as a result than what we've seen with Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog or pretty much anything that Electronic Arts does.

I think our dear Hippie Hunter is the worst kind of Sony fanboy....the one who's almost always very good at hiding his fanboyisness, and appears to be neutral.
Hippie Hunter, I can see through your lies :cmad:

Oh Gammy, I am a fanboy, but I lean towards Nintendo over Sony.

And if I were such a Sony ****e, wouldn't I be bashing the Xbox 360 in the process. Of course I'm not. The Xbox 360 is a great system with a much better game library for the time being. I'm not bashing the Xbox 360 and saying that the Playstation 3 is better. I'm bashing the developers who complain about developing for the Playstation 3 simply because they don't take the time to learn and work with it and praising developers who know how to multiplatform. Capcom, Infinity Ward, Bethesda, Epic, etc. and give people who spent the extra money for a Playstation 3 a quality product on par with the Xbox 360's.

If a game is multiplatform, both versions should be on par IMO.

And now you play the "racist" card yet again, to distract the people.
HH, I'm watching you like a hawk, and believe me..your MS (subtle yet I can see it) bashing and SONY fanboyishness are NOT going unnoticed.

But I like the Xbox 360. I have praised it several times (maybe not enough for you guys to notice) for having a much better controller and games library than the original. And I have bashed Sony several times for their arrogance, their price, their current lack of games, their piss poor PR, cutting backwards compatability in the 40GB model, etc.

But in the end, it's really up to the developers to make a system great. The developers are doing a good job with the Xbox 360, but not so on the Playstation 3, this is mostly (not solely) due to laziness of the developer/publisher.

However, because I bash developers for being lazy on the Playstation 3, know that great games are comming on the Playstation 3, and beleive that Metal Gear Solid 4 will be a Playstation 3 exclusive, I'm a Sony ****e apparently :o

That comment only proves I'm right.
Your deceiving techniques will NOT work anymore, so help me God.

Edit: You didn't type "God" with a capital letter G, you nazi heretic.
It's good, let the people see you for what you are! :cmad:
